Nightclubs are hell. What's cool or fun about a thumping, sw

Quote:
I went to a fashionable London nightclub on Saturday. Not the sort of sentence I get to write very often, because I enjoy nightclubs less than I enjoy eating wool. But a glamorous friend of mine was there to "do a PA", and she'd invited me and some curious friends along because we wanted to see precisely what "doing a PA" consists of. Turns out doing a public appearance largely entails sitting around drinking free champagne and generally just "being there".

Obviously, at 36, I was more than a decade older than almost everyone else, and subsequently may as well have been smeared head to toe with pus. People regarded me with a combination of pity and disgust. To complete the circuit, I spent the night wearing the expression of a man waking up to Christmas in a prison cell.

"I'm too old to enjoy this," I thought. And then remembered I've always felt this way about clubs. And I mean all clubs - from the cheesiest downmarket sickbucket to the coolest cutting-edge hark-at-us poncehole. I hated them when I was 19 and I hate them today. I just don't have to pretend any more.

I'm convinced no one actually likes clubs. It's a conspiracy. We've been told they're cool and fun; that only "saddoes" dislike them. And no one in our pathetic little pre-apocalyptic timebubble wants to be labelled "sad" - it's like being officially declared worthless by the state. So we muster a grin and go out on the town in our millions.

Worst than hell would be doing its evilness an injustice; a nightclub is the only place I might actually go homicidal with the nearest fork or spoon in hand.

However, that's my autistic disorder speaking; to each their own.

Says it all I think when you consider that the vast majority of people will only go to clubs after they've spent a few hours drinking themselves senseless.

I totally see Mr Brooker's point. He wrote an article about the pointlessness of small talk too. I don't know whether he is aspie or NT but either way it is great that this point of view has been aired in one of the leading UK national newspapers!

Thanks for posting this Alex

Nightclubs are great places to go to have one night stands?

Another reason why people go to clubs is to look for one-night stands. However, that only works for good-looking super-charming guys; the rest are typically left to rot in the dust, as far as picking up girls is concerned. For girls, it's different; pretty much any girl can go to a club and find sex. In other words, it's the mating season on Animal Planet (a TV channel) at its worst. But since clubs and bars are one of the few ways for people to find a sex partner, everybody just keeps going back there weekend after weekend, thinking they can pick up someone there.

I'm nothing like that when it comes to finding sex partners. I well aware of how repulsive I look, so I don't delude myself into thinking I can find someone at a club. I only to there to get drunk, dance, and release stress from the grueling work week. Not that the clubs are relaxing by any means, but the large amounts of alcohol and the loud music release the stress built up during the week. And on a rare occasion, I can find a girl to dance with, even if just for a few minutes. But when my goal is to find sex, I go to escorts, not clubs.

Night clubs should be burned to the ground, preferably with all the newt sheeple in them.

Idiots, everyone of them.

I've never actually been to a club but even without going I know I'd hate it. I have never been one for loud things, anyway.

I live in a city and we have a collage here, so every friday and sat night the city is filled with collage kids, hitting every bar, and we have a few clubs in the area. I get dragged to them by friends, ive tryed to pick up women, but never found a decent 1 their (plus i dont know how to pick up women, heh). Anyways, i stopped going a while ago, on occasion i get asked, but im not interested anymore, i can do better with my time and money.

I never been to a nightclub. I don't care for them. I don't think I'll ever go to one.

The "club" trend is not for me.

I tried it a few times with people from Uni, was never my thing though (too loud, too crowded, too hot, I can't dance, ...).

Everybody else seemed to love it though - loud music*, heavy beats (good for dancing / getting the pulse rate up), lots of random people to have random conversations with.

* But I like my music without distortions...

depends on the club. some are too crowded, but some are decent places. It depends on the reasons you go, too. i go to dance and let off steam. the vibrations of the music feel good. If I meet an interesting person, that's nice--- but I have a tough time remembering people and likely won't remember them unless there's something unusual about them. Most people are drunk and some are annoying. I avoid the annoying ones. I have a boyfriend, so i do not look for "hook-ups".

I've been to a few nightclubs - too loud, many drunk/alcohol-induced people and crowded. Just not my place.

Night clubs are a pointless waste of brick and morter. I've never been to one though (I'm just a 14 year old) and I don't plan on going when I'm old enough. They play music nobody likes(or at least that I don't like) and they would be too loud, hot, and crowded.

Lol it's not the speakers that distort first, it's your eardrums. The big club speakers are designed to penetrate a lot of biomass. The less people in the club, the louder and the worse for your ears.
