My two "furkids":

http://www.sewingwitch.com/harley/

http://www.sewingwitch.com/nimbus/

When I moved to a house of my own, Nimbus remained with my married roommates. But I still visit her several times a week, and I'm the one who gives her a small handful of treats. As far as Nimbus is concerned, this is the primary purpose of my visits.

Harley was a foundling. I was helping them clean their yard and a small clump of dirt next to a fencepost turned out to be an abandoned 3-week-old calico kitten. Nimbus would have no part of her, so I took her in at my new house. She's named both for the Joker's sidekick (director Kevin Smith had the same inspiration naming his daughter) and because she purrs like a little motorcycle (ie. Harley-Davidson).

I can' have cats anymore because I am very allergic to them. When I did have cat I enjoyed her companionship a great deal.

Oh my Tigger is DEFINITELY my best friend in the whole world I LOVE cats and always have I need a cat with me I get really lonely otherwise. Tigger stays on my bed, follows me around and purrs like crazy. Many aspies have cats for the reasons mentioned.

This thread makes me want to get another cat. I was looking after a ginger tomcat and he was such a joy, really affectionate too. I miss him.
This is him:

Scrolling down Harley's page was fun as she gradually became a wee kitten - SO CUTE!!

Nimbus is like a combination of my two white ones - short fur and exact same build as the girl and same personality and multicoloured eyes as the boy.

Thanks, Sam. She's indeed a cutie. She started out a real social cat and loved attention from anyone, but now living alone with me, she throws a nasty tantrum if anyone comes to visit, snarling and hissing at the visitor and me and sulking for a couple hours. It's a Jekyll and Hyde transformation. But when it's just the two of us, she's a sweetheart.

Nimbus is still a social animal and insists on attention when visitors are around. (But she'll tear you a new one if you touch her feet.)

If anyone's in the San Francisco metro area and wants a cat, I've got a feral colony at my door and I'd love to see some get homes. I'm about 20 miles north of Berkeley.

Animals have always been my best friends. I can understand them better than I can people. Right now I have 5 cats and a dog, but 3 of the cats are foster cats. One of them ran out of the woods in front of my house, jumped into my arms, and wrapped his front paws around my neck. If a human tried to do that, I would freeze or scream, but instead I laughed. He still gives me hugs every day. It's nice to get physical contact from animals. For some reason, it has always been easier to handle their touch. And having pets allows me to talk to myself all day long and have someone who is listening. It makes me feel less strange that way. And they don't care that I'm not like most other people. They just want me the way I am... now if I could only find a man who thought the same way! Also, having a dog makes me get outside. Because he is a VERY friendly Lab who loves children, people want to pet him. They ask me questions about him and I can answer them. Some people might call that small talk-- I call it a socially appropriate way to talk about one of my fixations.

Wow. Lucky you. I can only have one cat, as my parents aren't that fond of animals. :( One's more than enough, they say. But I always tell her all about my day, as she watches me knit, play my ds, whatever. And when I have to decide what we're going to watch, 'Sissy, should it be this or that?', she always agrees with the one I want. No arguments. She's great company.

YES!

My kittypuss is my best friend on the planet.

My brother is the same way with his kittypusses.

We have a saying in the house:
"A Cat Is A Boy's Best Friend"

That is to counter the dog mans best frend thing
not to ever say a cat could not be a girl's
best friend.

There was a time my dog was my best friend. But then after some therapy I managed to get some human friends too, which was a very good thing. I don't consider my dog my best friend anymore but I like her a great deal! I remember when I read Asperger's "Autistic psychopathy in childhood" he mentioned a boy (I don't remeber which of them!) who would go everywhere with his mice love them more than anything or anyone else. I guess this is a tendency among Aspergers.

My chickens are my best friends. They're fluffy and hugging them makes me feel better. They like me too. Whenever I go outside they rush me (although just looking for food). Still I can tell they really like me because one time I was holding one of them and I tried to let someone else hold the chicken and it went berserk.
