I haven't had anyone I've considered a real-life friend since 5th grade. I've just graduated high school.

I've had online friends but that's only on IM, email, etc.

I've never had a time where I've had absolutely no friends, but from 2010 to 2013 I only had one real friend. I'm better off now (most of my friends are also on the spectrum, I only have 2 NT friends).

Almost all my friends these days are people I've met online through playing Impossible Creatures.

I would have to say 2 and a half years ... ish, is the longest. I went through schools and college with very few friends, which were from a close bunch. Since college though, that sense of connection with people has dissolved and I don't consider myself to have any friends per say. I have people I am in regular contact with, but I don't know them, and only encounter them through volunteer work.

In truth, I have never felt as free as I do now; no more phone calls or texts at random times and nobody "dropping by" whenever they feel like it. I do, however, sometimes wonder if I'd benefit from a companion, because I think I do have a great deal of affection, it's just, it's hard for me to ... express it. Ultimately, in a perfect world, I would find complete happiness in having but one person to be with, and that person would be the same - a kind of intellectual relation that is mutually beneficial. It brings to mind a very odd article I read on wikipedia about "rational love" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rational_love

I've gone most of my life without a real friend, sure I've had aquaintances but none I'd really call a friend.

Pretty much all through middle school and my freshman year of high school. God, that sucked. I'm an introverted person, but I like hanging out with small groups of friends. I also didn't socialize much during my sophomore year in college, but that was less because I had no friends and more because I was going through some weird stuff and shut everyone out for about three months. I'm ashamed of that now, of course. I was kind of being a crappy person.
