I want to be a hugger, but I just don't feel comfortable! I can hug my sister or my parents but I feel weird hugging friends or other people. My brother (not a hugger either and who I think is aspergers) has this new girlfriend and she is a hugger. Now I'm scared she doesn't like me because I give awkward hugs! I can shake hands fine, but its not really appropriate for this kind of relationship...

I shake hands if I do not like/turst the person. If they take my hand and just shake it the gain a little trust, if they try to hug me they lose all trust. If I start the hug you know your good with me. There is a lady that lives by me (insane cat lady from the simpsons) she knows I hate hugs, she knows I have AS and yet she still hugs me and grabs my rear end....Needless to say I dont like her. She also thinks every single stereotype about me is true.

I always shake hands, plus it works well if I'm meeting someone. Hugging someone you just meet would be a bit too much.

Sometimes I hug, and sometimes I shake hands....depends.

Hugs-
Pros:
*You don't have to look them in the eyes
*Means the person is your friend
*Is at the end of something, so no awkwardness after if it goes weirdly

Cons:
*You don't know which side to hug
*Once someone starts a hug, it is that much harder to stop or avoid it
*You don't know if it should be a soft or hard

Handshakes-
Pros:
*They aren't as uncomfortable
*Usually aren't as much social pressure
*Might mean you get a job or position

Cons:
*They are usually sweaty-palmed
*They come more randomly
*People can have strong grips

I prefer handshakes with family friends and people I'm not close to. It gets annoying when I have to hug and kiss them on the cheek. I sometimes do this with my close family (the adults, anyway)

On the other hand, my two close friends I'll readily hug.

Haha, I told my family that I can't kiss them because of the autism. But there was a time I wouldn't even hug them.
