How do I fit in with fans of Symphonic and Gothic Metal?

Pretty much anyone can listen to gothic or symphonic metal, to be honest. Don't worry about fitting a certain archetype, just listen to what you like. I mean, I like my metal, but I also listen to a good amount of electronic music, alternative rock, and some classic rock. I've also been getting into post-punk lately as well. If I had to pick a specific number-one genre, I would probably have to say post-industrial, even though I don't dress like a rivethead or go out to clubs or do any of that.

And even though it's often said that symphonic metal is a "gateway genre" and that it's more accessible to newcomers, that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. In fact, with the complex instrumentation and the sheer "epicness" of it, I'd say symphonic metal really epitomizes what heavy metal is about.
