The irony is of hanging out with acquaintances is that if it goes badly hanging out outside of the normal premises, things can get very awkward. Ever literally come to a dead standstill in convo with someone your hanging out with outside of work/school for the first time? Or you find out the people you may like in moderation are interested in things you care nothing for.
I'm in a weird situation now where someone keeps trying to hang out with me but I'm scared to hang out with them alone because I know I wont entertain them and we wont have anything to talk about after awhile (probably). You must be an entertainer when you hang out as friends. Your situation may be different, but its a Pandora's box going on the outside.
