Am I a "High-Maintenance" Friend?
I know how you feel. What advice I can give you as an NT is that if an e-mail is urgent and requires an immediate response such as asking an instructor a question then yes 24-48 hours is a good policy.
With friends casually e-mailing and you don't hear from them in 2 weeks it means they are busy and are not trying to offend you. Heck I e-mail my Cousin who is a Special Day Teacher and don't expect a quick or frequent response or get upset if there is no response.
I just shoot off an e-mail like this" Dear X I hope all is well with you and the family. I hope your getting my e-mails and I know how busy you are.
In the case of my Cousin I know she is busy and she says she gets them and likes my e-mails but has a kid and a work life. I am not offended because I understand this.
There are priorities in life and sadly your pen pal is not getting back to you. But you have to remember your not the only one he has to respond to.
Lets put it this way say you work a job where e-mail is your life do you want to come home to more e-mails and respond to them all at once? Now I happen to be a good responder for the most part but there are times when I simply don't have time to respond. I apologize and say that I had to attend to important obligations. No harm done they understand.
I would stop e-mailing for awhile and then try again in two weeks time. If still you don't get a response then try phoning. Be prepared for a negative response.
