What area of the UK are you from anyway? :)

I'm from the north :) I'm applying to university but I'm quite worried about the social side of it. Could you perhaps tell me a little bit about the social expectations at university? :)

That's awesome :) There isn't really any social expectations.. I don't go to any university events or clubs, I just talk to people on my course during lectures that's pretty much it. You can join in with whatever you want or don't do anything.

What universities are you going to apply to and what course? :)

Oh, I used to live in Fife. It's lovely there. Hello, Fife person! However, Edinburgh is not in Fife! I hope you don't mind me saying but that's shocking ignorance considering you're talking about the county you live in yourself! It's fair enough to expect people to know nothing at all about counties that are far away from them, but I'd expect someone from Fife to know that Edinburgh is, in fact, in Midlothian.

I hope I do not offend you by saying that, but it was annoying me seeing somebody announce that Edinburgh is in Fife, because it isn't. Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and Scottish people ought to know what county it is in.

I hate people asking me "how are you?" as well. I always feel like saying angrily: "It's none of your business!"

It just seems like such a rude, intrusive question to ask.

Assuming they're inquiring after my emotional state, I don't see how my private emotions are anyone's business. My private life is just that: private.

Assuming they're inquiring after my health, for all they know I might be suffering from an embarrassing minor aliment that I do not want to talk about. Why are they trying to pry?

I know, I know, they're just being "polite" and "friendly." I hate it, though.

And, yes - even though I hate being asked that question, I do it to other people myself, automatically and without thinking. It just goes to show how we've all been brainwashed to use pointless "small talk."

Anyway, how is everybody on this thread?

I'm Irish mate, Am lucky I can even pronounce the local areas, but yea that's my mistake, Fife ends just at the forthrow bridge right? And edinbrough is on the other side? Or should I just accept I suck at this.

:P I've not been further north than Dundee so my map of scotland is tiny.

Oh I see. I beg your pardon then. That's understandable. I don't know any Irish geography and the locals would think me ignorant if I suddenly moved to Ireland. I wouldn't know where anything was. How long have you lived in Fife? :)

Yes, Fife ends at that Forth Road bridge, I think.

You look like a nice friendly person in your picture, by the way. :)

Salford is right next door to Manchester and is, in effect, integrated with it.

Erm I haven't actually made any friends yet I don't think.. I tend to keep myself to myself so.. but it differs for everyone on how long it takes, takes me around 6 months to a year :)
