Dealing with late diagnoses
I got diagnosed in my late twenties, kind of odd, my mom´s cousin worked with people with autism or Aspergers, and she has said to my mother since I was a kid that I probably had Aspergers. I am very careful who I tell that I have Aspergers, It´s not a secret, but some people doesn´t understand and I don´t want to be treated differently than someone without Aspergers.

I got diagnosed recently and late in life (age 25). One question is when, if ever, is it appropriate to disclose it to friends and acquaintances or dates? I honestly have no idea even how to think about the concept of being "disabled."
You are NOT disabled!! ! If your doctor forced this thought on you, then he is an idiot and you should change him. Tony Attwood, the famous shrink that works with Aspies, said in the documentary about Clay Marzo (the surfer with AS): "I don´t think of Aspergers as a disability. It´s a neurological difference. The trouble is, people will say: "People who suffer from Aspergers". No, you don´t suffer from Aspergers. You suffer from other people! I want the NTs to know that AS gives you talents. Don´t be sorry for them. Applaud them!"
