Snail mail is my primary was of making other people happy. I try to send cards on appropriate occasions or funny postcards (jackalopes, etc). That way people know I'm thinking of them but there's not the stress of talking on the phone or dealing with them in person.

This is a really good idea, especially for those with nice handwriting. I'll make a mental note to grab some to cover in my chicken scratch when I travel up north this summer.

I like to go where people do not know me or that I am any different from anybody else. Even just driving around when I am in a good mood. Then I like to go out of my way to be courteous to other people in hope of putting a smile on their face. It quickly becomes very contagious and rewarding ten times over.

Example: New Years Eve Afternoon 2011/2012 - I was walking across a nearby college campus for exercise as I do every Saturday afternoon when I came across an old woman (late 80s) sitting alone in her wheelchair and gazing down into a deep ravine as if she were contemplating the plunge. I stopped for about 20 seconds to speak to her about the history of that ravine and creek and it brought the biggest smile to her face that you can possibly imagine just to have somebody to talk to. I would have chatted with her longer if I had known that she was not waiting for somebody. That absolutely made my day. Here is a link to a pic of where it happened (direct inserted pic link had wrong aspect ratio):
