Maybe it's really a cult. In all seriousness though people have done this to me, made exuses not to see me anymore but kept seeing other friends/new friends. It's just a cowardly way of ending a relationship ( friendship) for any reason. People just make excuses and say they're busy and distance themselves from you. This way they don't actually have to tell you they don't want to see you. *Well, this has been the case from my experience anyway, it might not turn out that way.
