31st January works for me too. It's been suggested we change from our normal venue (National Theatre) to a museum or something. What does everyone want to do? Anyone have any preferences?

Of course you are welcome PipBoy.

Since nobody seems to have any preference over venue and it is now only a couple of weeks away, I am going to go ahead and suggest we meet at the V and A museum (nearest tube South Kensington and very easy to find from there). I am happy to discuss it further if anyone has any objections (so please check back on this thread for any updates if you are planning on coming) but otherwise we will meet in the entrance there at 2pm on the 31st.

I will bring a satsuma for anyone new to identify us by, as this appears to be the custom.

Sorry I meant to reply earlier. You should have the executive decision LittleBlackCat.

I think the V & A is a good choice.

Simply becuase the Science Museum and Natural History can get really busy, however I do have suggestions of how to deal with that from experience, but that could be for another time.

In my of experience of museum meets (I have been to around 3-4, many years ago excluding art galleries). People do the see the exhibits but this tend to tail off and there is some common area were people can sit. Then it can move on elsewhere like a park or a quiet pub (which are both near by to the V & A).

This is becuase is difficult to talk in some exhibits, as they can be crowded and noisy. However the V & A has good options as there are diverse collections, and becuase people have different tastes you can find cool nooks and crannies where you can have you cake an eat it so to speak.

I was at the V&A a few months ago. The entrance was quite a large, busy area. Maybe we should meet somewhere specific in the entrance? There were a couple of seated areas (a large, circular stone style seat if I recall correctly) so we could try to meet nearish there?

Sounds like a plan! I had considered a cafe but they can be quite expensive and as they only seemed to have one I thought it might get quite busy and they might get cross if we didn't buy anything.

Hope you all have a good time tomorrow.

I had something booked for Sunday. If you decide to have another one soon I'd be interested in going :)

Just to say "Hi".

Wish London wasn't so far away, as I live in Wales at the moment. Just been diagnosed (though have been suspecting for a loooooong time), so all very new and I'd love to be able to meet up with others. Although, the idea of meeting up with people I don't know is pretty terrifying. :)

And a museum meet up sounds perfect to me.

You guys, this makes me very nervous that you're saying on here exactly where you'll be, and at exactly what time, tomorrow..... This thread, like every other thread, gets crawled, and all of this information is PUBLIC, to the ENTIRE world!! What if a bad person sees this and goes to that place and tries to hurt you----I don't want to scare you, and I know you'll be in a public place, but..... Maybe you should finalize plans, by PM----or, at least, move this thread to the "Members Only" section, where it won't be crawled.....

Hi Campin_Cat I understand your concern.

I have been on many of these meets. My first WP meet was 2007 which I organised, and have been to other meets.
viewtopic.php?t=41284

However like you say we are meeting in a public place and during the day, quite a well known and frequented museum. Many of us already know each other.

Anyone is free to PM the organiser. She has already been contact with interested parties.

Public safety advice:

1. Tell someone your plans, when you expect to back.
2. Bring a mobile with fully battery.
3. Get clear directions, and up to date travel information.
4. Meet during the day in a public place.
5. You can get a temporary phone number for contact purposes.

PM isn't necessarily safer. This is a public meet that means it is out in the open.
