Esmeralda, human nature isn't pretty.....
No, it's not, and the longer one lives, the more clearly one sees. I'm grateful, very grateful, to my father, because one of the earliest things he taught me was that I should consider "knowing the truth" to be much more important than "being comfortable". He also taught me that sometimes the truth could be overwhelming, and that this was why we have art, music, and other beautiful things - so we can refresh our souls, and even share beauty with others.
I had a wonderful day yesterday, and it was filled with people. They were doing something difficult and important and dangerous, that helped me, and they were really good at it, and I respected their expertise and showed that respect. Found ways to help them that didn't interfere with the things they were doing (food, water, shade, places to sit and rest during their lunch.) And they appreciated the help. That's how it should be. But I'd do myself and them a disservice if I tried to tell myself that's how it always is.
I had to "stretch" myself and tolerate a lot of noise for more than eight hours straight. I was having the old shingles torn off my roof, and a whole new underlay and shingling and venting put on and in. Had to stay in the house so my cats wouldn't be terrified. I did it, and was proud of myself for managing it, and even more proud of myself for being able to rise to the occasion and be welcoming and helpful to the people who were there. But by the end of the day I was almost as exhausted as the workmen!
It was worth it. I have a new, much stronger roof, and positive memories of a day spent with strangers who really helped me

. One day like that, that's really like that, can offset a lot of days that aren't
