I found out that the tailgate party is only for organizations, not for the general student body. So I will not meet any like-minded people unless I transfer to a college in a more liberal town.

Oh Tim, I'm so sorry... I thought you knew that. I just assumed you were a member of the organization that you wanted to tailgate with. I should have asked you. But, you know, tailgates aren't always organizations getting together. You can just a get a group of friends together and do one if you want. Don't give up on finding like minded individuals. It's a big college - even though it is in a conservative town doesn't mean all the students there are conservative. Look on the school's website and see if you can find a list of student organizations. Try joining one that interests you. Good luck.

Have you looked at what organizations exist at the university? There might be a web page listing them. It could be easier to find people with similar views or that sort of thing by browsing through that and checking out a meeting.

By liberal, do you mean in terms of political bent? There's probably a democrat organization on campus. I'm not sure how useful going to such a meeting would be in terms of meeting people, but who knows. While I was going to college, I went to organization meetings that I thought I might fit in with, and they were complete busts. I also took a chance and went to a couple that didn't seem promising in the slightest, and they worked out quite well.

All of them were somewhat draining, but I managed to make some friends through one of them. Well, people befriended me. I never really get the feeling that I'm the one initiating the friendship.

Actually, my college has only 6,000 students.

By "liberal", I mean both politically and socially liberal. But I base my social liberalism almost entirely on the fact that I watch South Park and some indie films that would be considered offensive by people who are socially conservative.

That's a shame, but not surprising considering you are in a very conservative region of a conservative state. Hopefully there are some among the 6000 that share your world view.
