The weird thing is that I used to be far more social online than I was offline. Now it's the other way around. I can never think of anything to say to my online buddies and I find it even more difficult to forge new friendships.

I'm also far pickier when it comes to assessing potential friends. I tend to look for shared common interests and tastes along with compatible temperaments and outlooks.

I also can't help feeling like one of the most boring people on the planet. Why would anyone want to be my friend?

awwh.. thats the way I am too.. usually online Im okay, unless its someone I know in person. I talk a lot online in fact im great at talking.. and im good at carrying deep conversations in real life..

but the friendship thing is the same with me.. im too picky, probably because im just picky about my lifestyle in general..

hmm. No i do not have this problem. It seems to be easier to socialize online because you have more time to think of what to say. And if you don't like it you can rewrite it before you submit it.

Usually I tend to be nervous about it. Which explains why it's been over a year since i added anyone now to my friend list.
After that it usually isn't a problem.
Then again there is the whole awkwardness of trying to find a good first topic...

I never initiate the messaging. I get too nervous... but I can handle it when others IM me.

when you guys say you chat with others though 'IM', i assume you mean AIM, Yahoo messenger, etc? if so, do you mostly talk to people you already know or do you encounter and 'make friends' with people you've never/barely met in real life?

anyways, i barely use any form of IM since i have so few friends to begin with. i'm also terrified to start an IM with acquaintances if i know them in person
