Saying "no offence meant" before saying something offensive doesn't excuse the offense. If you don't MEAN the offense, then don't SAY it.

You just insulted all my friends, my family, my teachers and my classmates.

I live in a county that voted 70% for Bush in 2004. I stopped trying to express a viewpoint years ago!!

Not all NTs are that bad. Some are, as you said. But some will actually bend over backwards to try for you and it's them who should be admired.

Anyway. Do I water down my beliefs? Heck, I don't even proclaim them anymore. I do have strong beliefs over things like abortion, but I've stopped saying them now. It just causes arguments. I now just generally go along with other people's opinions in our early friendships. Once we're close friends, then I'll say my side.

He needs to water down his beliefs to have at least one friend ;)

Unfortunately very few people get to know the real me, its like I have a break unless like minded aspies/auties are around... my complex brain often seems to go into overload when meeting new people its like a generator on full power... dare to speak especially if more than one person there a cascade of jumbled chaotic thoughts mumble out.... 8O

"There's a line in the Beatles song "Eleanor Rigby', about how she 'wears a face she keeps in a jar by the door'..." i feel like that a lot of the time.

If you can't do that, then you won't survive in this politically correct world.

I have pretty radical and some reactionary beliefs myself...I always keep them to myself to avoid pissing people off too much.

I do not misrepresent my beliefs on purpose, others do not always understand me, so often prefer not to say..

I'll talk about my beliefs with my friends, and with people who are prepared to have an intelligent argument, but I won't bother if I think someone is just talking out of their ass.

Yes. The less you do it, the more people seem to hate you.

I've either suppressed them completely or been extremely up front about it.

It's not as black and white as you all put it. I mean, situations are rarely as simple as you all describe them. Eg: If you "water down" your beliefs, you may end up with all the mediocre people as friends, those who can't take an intellectual challenge however small and need them "watered down" for them, while a wise, interesting onlooker who shares your views or welcomes them, watches you water down your beliefs for the mediocre and passes you by for friendship. There's no easy solution to the dilemma of how much you should be yourself and how much you should try to water your personality down to fit in. It's very case by case sensitive.
