I'll take it as a compliment in the future, if anyone does.
Weirdness and individuality is something that just was not allowed in the house I grew up in. I had to play the part my parents expected for me to survive. When people called me weird outside of home it just made me so anxious and nervous. I felt like I wasn't doing a good job at home and my parents could tell and I'd get yelled at, again. Every single moved I made was to avoid getting yelled at.
So I'd study people more, repress everything & try harder.
I mean I've seen "normal", I'll take weird any day of the week.
I am not sure, but I think you mean what you mean here. Knowing what kind of stupid and awfull a lot of so called "normal" people do, being normal too is not something we would like.
You wouldn't be worried that you'd have to be totally wired to misspell a word like weird, or would you just want to ward off wild and weird word abuse such as I just perpetrated?

((Like I said: Statement of fact.))
The latter.

I'm offended when my parents presume that one day i will "grow up" or "finally understand" or "get more normal" Like i'm not actually a human being right now, i'm some kind of animal, and one day i will blossom into a real human being.

There's a word to discribe their notions. It's called ignorance.
Lots of people call me weird, I kinda like it. I hate the thought of being just like everybody else. Plus I KNOW im weird, its nothing new that theyre saying. Now that I kind of know WHY im weird, it's even eaiser to take.

What, Perpetrate? That's what you call it when you wear two opposing name brands, like Nike and Adidas! ((Or at least this was the explanation given to me in 2000 or 2001 by p[eople who spoke a lot of slang))

I don't see being called weird as anything other than a statement of fact, and a compliment, so even if it was meant offensively I feel it's still just a statement of who I am.
If someone called me stupid, on the other hand, I'd take offense at it, but probably do as you do and thank them.

Well, I hardly see it being used in a verbal conversation where I live.
