I just got back from the Seattle Aspergers picnic at Woodland park, saw both familiar and new faces and had a good time. We had perfect weather this year, and our spot was nice and quiet so no one had any sensory problems this time around. My Squarepegs group is holding our monthly meeting this Saturday, our comrades in Olympia are meeting in August and coordinating with our main site now, and the big Autism day event is happening next month out in Carnation, so at least for Western Washington Aspies there are quite a few opportunities this summer to meet other people on the spectrum.

Well Welcome to my world, I happened to be a fully diagnosed Aspie from Bremerton, over in Kitsap County, which I know there are not many Aspies in my area but for Autistic people, there seems to be more of them over here, besides living with my mom due to the fact this economy sucks, but on occasion I sometimes go on long outings, but by Public Transportation only.

I actually live on Bainbridge Island, so I'm very familiar with the Kitsap Aspie exerience... We do have some people that come in from the peninsula for the Seattle meetings, but admittedly it's a bit of a schlep. We're looking to expand into Kitsap, but there's quite a logistical challenge in finding locations and leaders to open new chapters of our club. Hopefully soon, but expansion really has been going in fits and starts.

our olympia meetup.com aspie meetup this past saturday [at evergreen community college] was interesting, in that the mother of a new member happened to be a special ed teacher, she had much to contribute. she even told me she couldn't believe i was of a certain age :D [i floated on cloud 9 after that]. we sat outside the cafeteria in the grass underneath some leafy overhanging trees, and the gentle breezes blew and the sun kindly hid behind the clouds. a very pleasant afternoon, all in all. likely, the next oly meetup will be in the same place but on sept. 10, the 2nd saturday, at 1PM.

I'm working 11pm-11am and I'm probably gonna get screwed out of the carnation event, barring some miracle I might try to go. Anyone else?

You're out in Belfair, right Blabs? I'll have to see if anyone's coming from out that way, I know we've had people come in from as far as Ellensburg and Whidbey before.

I'm going to be at the fair in Carnation tomorrow, my group has a space and we like to turn it into a sort of Aspie lounge underneath a grape arbor. We're doing a sort of bring your own picnic sort of thing this year, plus we're going to have flyers and a table and all. I shouldn't be hard to spot, I look exactly like the pic in my avatar.

thank you but oly is about as far as i'm qualified to drive, that's over an hour's driving from my hole in the woods as it is. i live about halfway 'tween shelton and belfair, but way out in the woods, far enough away from highway 3 that i can't hear the traffic noise out here.

My club is meeting this Saturday in Seattle. I'll be making my famous grilled pizzas that people have been pestering me to do again since I last did them two years ago, so it would be a good first time to come. We're on meetup.com as the Seattle Square Peg Social Club, check it out.

I've been on the email list for Seattle Square Pegs for a while now. I'm always busy the day they have their gatherings though :(

Pizzas went well, though by the end I was pressing road slices on people just to use up all my dough so I wouldn't have to lug it home... That's the danger of starting a group and then moving an inconvenient ferry trip away from it, the logistics of things like transporting two sheets of live pizza dough and a big box of cheese and toppings on a hot day can suddenly become very difficult indeed. Today was a special case though, I had to go into town early to help my wife set up a booth at Hempfest, then roll to a relative's moving away party, then set up for Squarepegs and cook for a crowd of 20+. Thank god for Xanax and restaurant experience, though whoever decided to shut down the University Bridge without any warning till one block away is now officially on my list, along with the sadist who designed the intersection of Montlake and Pacific. That's not the good list.
