Pacing/walking in circles on my tippy toes or patting whatever flat surface is in front of me... I buzz to drown out noise. I also tap with my feet when I'm sitting.

I too have stim toys my cousin would make them for me and i would test them out i remember doing that it was awesome and i used to play with bits of string and elastic it was a stim for the mind cuz i was away for me to escape into my imagination if that doesn't sound weird :P

Well let me present it to you from my point of view. When my beautiful wife and precious daughter come to me and tell me they are embarrassed to be out in public with me because of how my stims, though they don't call them that, make me look. That changes everything. It's no longer just about me.

In the top right of the window there is a 'Quote' button. If you click that instead of the post button it will set up the quote for you, and then you can type your comments after that. However if you are accessing the internet via a program like JAWS because you are visually impaired you will have to get someone else who is visually impaired to help you out.

But the secret to quoting is to type an open square bracket followed by the word 'quote' followed by an = sign followed by a double quote followed by the name you want to quote, followed by another double quote then a close square bracket. After the close square bracket, paste the quoted text, or type it, if you trust your typing accuracy. Then at the end of the quote type an open square bracket, followed by a forward slash, then the word quote then a close square bracket. Also there needs to be no spaces inside the square brackets.

Also there is a preview button at the bottom to the left of the submit button that you can click on to see what your post will look like before you send it. You can also edit your post in that mode. Just go to any post and click the quote button, and you can see how others have quoted their posts. You can use this technique to see how people photos, too if you like.

Is that as clear as mud? :)

I honestly have no clue how you accomplished that. My muscles ache to move when I try to sit totally still. I have to sit with my muscles contracted.

is a stim meant to be something you do without noticing and/or you do to feel good?

only ones i can think of atm are tapping my index finger constantly whenever at a desk, jumping my leg when i'm sat down (isnt as if i lift my foot off the ground or anything, just quickly move my knee up and down with the ball of my foot still on the ground), ive also just started hitting the side of my leg with my fingers as my hands move when i walk.

I wiggle. Lots.
When I'm waiting for something I tend to tap my right index finger and I can get a little lost in it.
I flap my hands - like shake them out, but I can be a little self conscious about it so I try not to do it around others.
I also flap my fingers of my left hand when I concentrate and I have little control over it.

Gosh, I guess I was real basket case. I don't know where that expression came from. For folks who don't know, it means second cousin to a lost cause. I liked to sit with my left leg crossed over my right knee and I would rotate my left foot up and down very rapidly. That did a good job of using nervous energy, but it wasn't very acceptable. There was a place on my right hand that stayed red and calloused all the time because I twisted it and pulled on it with my left hand. I got lots of flack from my Dad about that one. When I was in forth grade, I used to twist my hair over and over until it formed a knot. I liked the feel of that little hair knot rubbing on my forehead, but it earned me a spanking when I got home from school every time I did that. I have always managed to change my stims, but I seem unable to stop them. Something else always replaces what I manage to stop.

That is because I made it up myself as I wrote that response. It was supposed to mean not directly related, but somewhat, which would mean, not totally hopeless. Was that as clear as mud? That's an expression my Dad used to use.

Now days I cross my legs at the ankles, and tap my feet together under the desk, usually to the music that is playing in my head, or not. Right now I am stimming by playing the soundtrack to Lion King, and the stimulation of the music is making me very high.

alright thanks for the explanation, and i get the clear as mud bit lol
i'm not sure where a stim differs from something you just like doing if its something that makes you feel good, but listening to old music does have an effect on me, 60's/90's all the way.

Ditto. I'm also a toe-walker.
