sometimes yes but not always
my big brother in middle school/high school. He didn't hurt anyone but he scared them into stopping.

I was protected a few times by a small circle of friends. When they weren't there however, I went through exactly what you just described.

^^ well my few bestfreinds were kinda of "weirdos" so they were bullied as well.

One and only one time. We were in 7th grade, we were all supposed to heat up these plastic tubes (or was maybe glass, I don't remember any more) with Bunsen burners. A boy threw a heated tube at me. It would have hit me in the eye but I managed to block it with my hand (I wouldn't have thought I had the reflexes to do that). The teacher didn't believe that that's what happened except that this really popular girl vouched for me. Nobody stood up for me when the same kid attacked me with an exacto knife, or any other time.
