I swore off alcohol at 5 years old, had my first alcoholic drink at 18 which is the legal age here. I then went to a nightclub about a year later and got drunk, woke up the next morning and hated the feeling. Tried it again just recently (Although that was an experiment, as I could never find an alcoholic drink that tasted good to me, and even that didn't work) so now I've sworn off it. (Besides, I can't play pool properly after a drink)

I see a lot of you are not drinking. But I was just wondering: are you guys on GFCF diet or not? If you are not on that diet, then you are taking morphine-like compounds each time you eat bread or drink milk. It is worse than drinking. After all, alcohol is legal after 21, while morphine is never legal.

P.S. Yes I do eat bread/milk and no I don't drink alcohol unless it is one of these rare occasions. So it is more of a question than a statement. Since majority of aspie adults are not on a diet (which is why I am not), perhaps there is something that makes gluten/casein "not as bad"?

I hate alcohol. I hate the smell, I hate the bitter taste, and the warming sensation in my throat and stomach really bugs me. I might have a sip here and there, but we are talking about one tiny sip. People think I'm weird because I don't like alcohol, but I think they are weird *for* liking alcohol.

I don't drink because I choose not to. People say "a little alcohol won't hurt you", but I don't want to take that chance. One drink could turn into two, and so on. I don't plan on doing so in the future and my family's accepted that. :)

No, in fact, I don't not drink alcohol, what silliness.

I don't drink. It's not because of the bad effects on my health or for ethical reasons: I simply don't like the taste of alcohol.

I don't drink because the slightest amount of alcohol makes my face turn a freaky shade of red and I feel really sick for hours afterwards.

Although there are religous reasons for me, I imagine without such moral guidelines, that I would have had a sensory issue against alchohol.

*facepalm* You don't need to be religious to have morals.

Anyways, alcohol is probably the thing I hate most in the world. I understand why people drink it, but I have no respect for them, for several reasons. First, it's damaging to your health, and it can be damaging to the physical and mental health of those close to you too. Then, the necessity of a huge number of people to drink to fit in and "have fun" is pathetic and pointless, and paired with the fact they're willfully damaging their bodies, they deserve no respect for drinking. And thus there is no reason for me to take my first drink of alcohol, and I never will.

I dont drink either, except on rare occasions.

Do you drive? That always a good excuse not to drink. Or a half of shandy as im driving (light on taste).

Otherwise be honest and tell everyone you dont drink (but stop yourself from saying it for losers, she wont like that).
it just a thing of yours. I have ordered a pot of tea in a pub (i am English), while others are drinking pints.

I also don't do drugs, drink tea or coffee, and I don't eat meat/fish/or eggs.

The underlined part is because of my religion, and the rest is all my choice

What religion are you? I don't drink due to religious reasons as well, but tea and coffee?

I don't drink and when I'm invited out I always ask for a lemonade or a fanta or something like that, just say that you don't really like the taste of Alcohol and you would prefer a soft-drink...

I don't drink tea or coffee either (religious/moral views)... so to chrissyrun... you aren't alone in that.

Do you mind if I ask, why not tea and coffee?

I don't! Only because when I did, I took it TOTALLY overboard, drinking too much too often and said some stupid things that cost me some friendships. It's just not worth it anymore - and I can't seem to get the hang of 'moderation'. It seems to be abstinence or OTT... :P

Actually there is a study that shows that "alcohol making people happy" is just a placebo. What they did was this: they split people into two groups, and each group got alcohol enjected by a needle. Now, one group was told that it was alcohol while the other was told it was "a new medication they are testing out". The group that was told it was alcohol was really happy while drunk, claiming how it is "even better than getting it by mouth", and so forth. On the other hand, the group that was told it was a "new medication" did not report any "happy" feelings; instead, they were complaining how their muscles feel week, how they are disoriented, and so forth.

This Is probably because the people who knew it was alcohol felt safe because they knew it was just alcohol. When you feel dizzy and weak it is natural to be scared. If you think it is a new chemical formula you would be worried about the effects getting worse.

Alcohol makes people happy when they feel safe.

I drink alcohol frequently and it makes me feel happy. This is because i understand the affects of alcohol, i know when i have drank too much, and how long the affects will last. It is like wearing a warm fuzzy blanket.

From age 21 to 22 1/2 I wouldn't touch alcohol! Now I drink once in a while! I like mixed sweet drinks!
