I think perhaps this whole thing would work better if we had a more solid activity in mind, rather than meeting up at a random time and trying to wing it. We need to make this meetup a little more enticing!

The weekend of the 11th was only really valid when I suggested it a week and a half ago. Another date will have to be figured out when we can agree on an activity. What would a good activity be? It would have to be something close to one of the CBD train stations. Perhaps lunch, a movie or minigolf? I'm hoping for better suggestions.

I agree,

I normally look up any Melbourne Events via google before going to the city,

Regardless though I went to this years Chinese New Year out of curiousity, I ended up going to the Chinese Museum and checking out the parade and shows they had going, It was good, Just VERY busy.

Sometimes I don't plan much though, and I figure out what I wanna do when Im there...

I like playing Pool and I am part of a Pool Comp League around where I live, So going to a Pool Hall in the CBD could be good idea.

I also like going to the Crown, and might be interested in going to the Cinemas there or somewhere else in the CBD, but also the Games Arcade has alot of stuff, Like Lazer Tag, Air Hockey plus Bowling and other stuff.

Btw I would like to know who's interested though, and if possible maybe email them so I know them a bit more about them before I go to the city. If thats ok, email me here ----> [email protected] as I rarely go on Wrongplanet any more. =)

Hi Guys,
Did anybody actually catchup from February?? I'm a Melbournite and I think there shouldn't be pressure on meeting as a group...What do people think of opening a Melbourne forum link on WP?

On the other hand I live in Glen Waverley and happy to meet people for a coffee near the Glen Waverley train station if you are in the neighborhood?

Lets keep this going...

Oh well, I guess nobody wants to meet an autistic alien?

I see some people of Melbourne wanted to get together for a meeting. I would be interested but it would have to be a family event like coffee & a park to take my 7yo & 5 mth baby. Sounds like a good idea to share stories and meet locals who are dealing with the same issues.

I am not on Wrongplanet that often but if it was posted to this tread I would be notified.

As far as I know the Feb meet up didn't happen. There ended up being only two of us and I'd feel more comfortable with a larger group, well at least three, for a first meeting. I'm happy to do a park trip or similar. I'm pretty keen to meet up with other Aspies outside of a "support group" setting.

How about the zoo? :D

Hi all, I'd certainly be interested in a meet up. The Zoo sounds fantastic, easy to get to, lots to look at, BYO picnic lunch or buy something there.

The zoo sounds good. Maybe in a month when the weather picks up. I would bring the whole family, that's myself, hubby, 7yo son & baby.

My 7yo son has the diagnosis of AS we as parents just suspect now we understand it better he might have got it from us lol.

Anyway we are keen to meet, if the zoo is too hard for others there is also a park at Elwood beach with a closed-off park & a La Porchetta restaurant so adults can sit with coffees and let little ones run wild.

Just a thought if the zoo is too expensive for some this is another option that is free. It doesn't matter for us was can travel just as long as it's kid AS friendly.

I'd be up for it. Didn't see this thread bumped before, but I'll watch it for replies now. I've never met any aspies (that I know of), but it might be interesting. Either zoo or Elwood is fine by me - both good ideas.

I guess nothing much is going to happen with this unless someone proposes a specific date and activity (as per Sheldon's Friendship Algorithm), so I will:

Activity: visit the Melbourne Aquarium
Date: Saturday 1st Dec 2012. Time to be worked out later.
Cost: $35 adult, but 20% off if you have a Myki (don't we all?)

Who's up for it?

It was inspired by yellowtamarin's zoo idea, but I've actually never been to the Melbourne Aquarium, so I'd prefer that. Still open to the zoo or other places, though.

Awesome! PM me any updates, cos I missed your last post here completely.

I like the zoo idea because I'm a member so my payment is covered, hehe. I went to the aquarium recently but am happy to go again if that's the concensus.

Sorry for the late reply, but unfortunately I can't say yes or no right now to this date as we have someone interstate that is unwell and we could be away. I will know closer to the date like a week before but if we are in Melbourne it will be a yes.

I will keep a look out for updates to this post before the date for confirmations either way.

btw I really don't mind Zoo or Aquarium. Happy with either.

I've got a 1st birthday party on that day, from 2pm. I can still make it to both if we meet in the morning. Will be a tad tricky though :(

That would be pushing it, I think. Better to reschedule this. What about next Saturday (24th) or 8th December?

I'm fine with the zoo as well - haven't been there for a long time.
