People do that around here, too. Sometimes they will yell a greeting to someone several yards away, and make direct eye contact with me while they do it! It has confused the hell out of me many times.

Yes! I HATE that! Recently, an acquaintance turned around, smiled broadly, and enthusiastically said, "Hi!" People aren't generally that happy to see me, but I didn't want to be rude, so I returned the smile and greeting. She totally ignored it, pushed past me, and hugged her husband who had come in the door behind me. Very embarrassing! I had this problem with her another time too. It's like she considers me invisible, so she doesn't even bother to explain. She was sitting next to me, but kept staring directly at me with a big smile on her face, during a show we were mutually attending. After the other incident, I decided to follow her gaze, this time, and found that she was watching her child, who was sitting a few seats down from us, with the other kids. It was understandable that she would look occasionally; but, I'm not kidding, she never watched the show, just kept her head turned in our direction the entire time. It was incredibly uncomfortable!

I know! And, we're supposed to be the abnormal ones!
