I always thought people were jealous of the ones who smiled all the time.

It's fine as long as it isn't insincere. It really annoys me when someone tells a person off but they are smiling all the time - it comes across as a mixed message and being hypocritical. I don't mean if you're being told off in a joking way but when they are dead serious but still smiling and the smile doesn't reach there eyes. Some bosses and teachers are like that.

Being disgusted with constant cheeriness makes total sense to me. It's not natural to be happy all the time. And this is the place where people will understand your aversion to perkiness. I actually got fired from a job because I didn't smile and my voice sounded too flat on the phone. But unfortunately, we have to hide our disgust because, for some reason, particularly in the work force, our society encourages this flagrant behavior of painted-on happiness. Here, however, we will understand and sympathize.

When I was asked to serve customers in a Fish 'n' Chip shop I was criticised by customers and staff for never smiling. I also had trouble hearing what people said to me, and I got accussed of mumbling.

Someone in an organization I am in here at school smiles all the time. It's as if her face is just naturally arranged to be smiling, and she has to make a concerted effort to not smile. The overwhelming majority of the time it's genuine, though some NTs in the organization have said *THEY* have a tough time trying to figure things out when she's smiling but not feeling that way.

She is one of the most positive, nicest people you'll ever meet though, so it really fits her character. That given, I think it's kinda cool really.

I can understand why people would be upset at someone who gave fake smiles all the time, but that's not the case here.

Some people have nervous smiles, and laughs. I guess I do.

I think its kind of weird when people are hiding from reality.Like a girl I met this summer who was always happy and smiling. It wasn't until i knew her for about 2 months that she told how she felt about anything. It turned out she was super depressed because 3 of her best friends had passed away in a car accident like two weeks before i knew her :(

If they are just naturaly optimistic it's fine but when people hide behind one it can be down right creepy sometimes.

Hey, exactly you guys! That sort of falseness sets my alarm off as well. I hate it when people try to be nice to me when they ask me for a favour, because then I know they couldn't simply ask me and risk me saying no, so they want something they don't think I want to give them, and I take that as offensive. But I know, they do it because everyone else do, so they obviously suspect me of reacting the same as most others, so I don't blame them, but it sure would be nice with a world of honesty instead of advertisement smiles and things that doesn't stick in reality when their lies shallow fade away.
