Jup, I am not shy, maybe a little insecure, but the problem is not I don't dare to ask questions or talk about something - I don't know what to talk about -
But a (NT)friend told me everyone suffers from that, but I think with me it is a bit different story and more severe

Doing well in business, I can sometimes fell like I have some skills.

There are areas where it falls apart.

I have friends where interaction is completely natural. Those friends don't believe me when I say I have AS. Other associated would readily agree.

I find that I have rules for different situations. In a business setting, I am stunned when someone breaks character and says something off color or informal.

I see a check out girl at the WaWa often. I was shocked yesterday when she joked with me. I don't know why, it was a base reaction. She obviously recognizes me from other trips to the store.

I didn't understand the attention. She seemed to notice me when I walked in. Like...pointedly so. I haven't been in there in a while and I don't think we've ever exchanged words other than "credit" or "debit".

So I was floored when she appeared to be trying to be charming with me. So much so that I barely heard a word of her joke. I responded with something nonsensical and left in a hurry.

"I like things too!! !!"

Except that, for a good number of us, shyness is not the problem. Some of us are capable of talking to people easily without feeling incredibly anxious or scared (otherwise, I wouldn't be part of the speech and debate team) but when it comes to the talking itself, then nothing can really be said.

Shyness isn't an issue for me. I can act like an NT and make people think I'm "normal" but I don't like it. I don't like making small talk and no amount of practice will make me like it. Therefore, I don't do it. If there's a discussion going on about something I find interesting, I join in, if not, I keep to myself.

I can act. I teach acting!
There are a few people i can simply be myself around. What a relief to not have to act.
