i'm not sure where a stim differs from something you just like doing if its something that makes you feel good, but listening to old music does have an effect on me, 60's/90's all the way.

Stim means or is short for self stimulation, and as far as I can tell, anything that I do because it is stimulating would qualify as a stim. And I do things that are stimulating because it feels good. Trust me. If it didn't feel good, I wouldn't do it very long. However stims are done for other reasons, like it is much easier for me to concentrate when I am also moving. I can work out how a program will function if I am pacing while I contemplate this. It is easier for me to keep my mind in the game so to speak if I am pacing while I am talking to someone on the phone. Sure, conventionally stims are limited to the things that are visible and unusual, like rocking, or flapping one's hands, etc. I guess I expanded the definition a bit.

hmm yea i see what you mean now, i pace when on the phone too, either to calm myself because i find it stressful or just to help me concentrate i dont know. i do think its alot more stressful talking on the phone than face to face, i feel that you dont really have the time to think about a reply like you do on the internet, but you cant waste time like you can face to face when they can see you're thinking.

I don't have a stim. I AM a stim*. Blblblblblblblb!
Okay, seriously though. When I laugh, I act like Porky Pig. By that, I mean (laughs) st-st-s-s-st-st-tuttering lea-lea-lea-leeeeeeea-like t-th-th-this.

*Just a little warning, people. "I AM a stim" means I'm a little cuckoo in the head.

Wiggling my leg back and forth and up and down
wiggling my toes
tapping my foot
scratching my head
playing with my hair
flapping my arms...expecially if my sleeves are too long
clapping my hands
practicing sign language
cracking my knuckles

doing up to 4 at the same time

ashamed...sometimes, but most of the time, nope

I cant always hide it

It seems to release pent up energy...If I try to stay still for more than 2 min, I feel like I am going to explode.

OOOOOOOOOOOkaaaaayyyyyyyy...

8O NOW it called STIMMING!

Me mum always used to note that I shake my left leg when I eat. It would cause things to shake in the kitchen.

Then as if THAT'S not bad enough, I've had co-workers make note of my TOE TAPPING...and I mean BOTH FEET! One of them that I was friendly with would say, "There you GO again...TAPPITYTAPPITYTAPPITYTAPPITYTAPTAPTAPTAP!! !!"

Once the office below ours called up and asked one of the others in the department, "Who's that TAP DANCING up there????"

I dunno', it seems comforting somehow.

But this is what STIMMING is?

Oh dear :?

Hi. I chew the inside of my mouth. Constantly touch my hair and run small sections through my fingers. Don't like it when the ends start to feel different then I know its time for a trim. Fiddle/flap fingers if frustrated or bored. Used to rub my eyebrow. Thats all I can think of for now. :D

I chew on and pick my fingers. I'm trying to quit, though, because I'm tired of bleeding on stuff and it's unhygienic to have your fingers in your mouth all the time. I bought some fidgets to use instead, but nothing is quite the same.

When I was a child I used to flap my arms as if I was trying to take off, I would do this when I got excited. Now when I am happy I notice I flick my right middle finger underneath my left middle finger as if my finger was kicking it, I flick my index finger under my lip so it get's slightly wet and then rub the tip of my nose, i quickly tap my left index knuckle and baby knuckle with my right thumb and baby finger and I twiddle my hair throughout the day. Sometimes I just tap the top of my right hand into my left palm. There may be more I am unaware of.

Interesting log name. I'm allergic to aspartame. What exactly are fidgets?
