Well done my friend. :) :P

I always wndered if i had a phobia of socalising, but i put it down to being unfamiliar with a person and a group, so i switch off, in a thread i did, i talked about a friend whom is like a sister, and i guess it all comes down to familiarity, and how well you know a person, and if they have done the same for you :) But of course, it's the same for other people :)

Yeh, I find that I am a lot more comfortable with people I'm used to being around. I guess social phobia is the same thing that everyone has, only made much much bigger with us. A lot of the problems I face because of social phobia, I notice 'normal' people have them as well, just not as bad.

My social phobia is improving loads. :D

You've got to watch out for us internet people. We slip in through the tubes ;)

Okay, that doesn't sound as funny as when I first thought it. Darn.

I do love the internet, because at least I get SOME social contact this way. For whatever reason I'm much less scared with it than in real life.

Me too. This is the only way I really communicate with people outside of my family. I'm glad I found this site. :D

'normal' people do have all the same problems. It makes it really hard for them to understand that there's just a fundamental piece to the puzzle that's lacking. The part that shows that things are actually going good. But the vast amount of things that may go bad are abundant in our minds.

Congrats on getting out. Keep it up. :D

I've never had social phobia or social anxiety. Nor have I ever been shy. But I still don't socialize well.

I haven't seen almost anybody mention Avoidant Personality (it's always referred to as S.A.D.). If you look at the symptoms, they are VERY similar to AS (in regards to social manifestations.) I've been diagnosed with both, but honestly it's just plain Asperger's to me.

I used to think I had APD.

Huh, I had never heard of that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avoidant_personality

I seem to match the Avoidant Personality Style that's listed, but not the Avoidant Personality Disorder or DSM listings.

It makes me feel very weary...or overstimulated....or something...I never want to stay in very soical situations for very long....(outside SHFL)....i was in a situation the other day where we were at a place where there were a bunch of acquaintances so every few minutes there was someone to chitchat with, and I found myself feeling dizzy and my heart was beating faster....

Yes! I can totally relate to everything you've posted. Especially the part about avoiding the people that you like and they like you in return. I always tell myself that I won't be a coward this time and I will be outgoing and the small talk wouldn't be so bad but...... it never works out in the end, I always freeze-up when I see someone I know and actually like, when I talk to them my voice gets really high I think its nerves and I become somewhat non verbal. I'm always afraid that they will think I'm weird/unfriendly because of it (sigh)

never heard of this before, but after reading up on it on wikipedia, I definitely have at least Avoidant personality style, and might be borderline for the disorder.
