How the hell do people afford to go to bars regularly anyways, that's expensive as hell. I mean 5 dollars for a beer and 6 or more for a shot of something. I prefer to just drink with a few other people in a smaller, not as annoying environment with whatever music I want. I don't mind going to bars occasionally though even then it depends on the bar.

Some people have jobs. Dropping $150 a weekend wouldn't be a problem for me. However, I find bars (especially solo) to be extremely boring. And I'm cheap.

Still more cost effective to drink at home, but just my opinion.

Of course it's more cost effective, but you don't get the people around you. That's why most people go to bars. It's social. The alcohol just lubes the socialness.

It depends on the bar, but I don't see the point in the going to those where I can't even decipher the person I'm attempting to have a conversation with over the noise.

Well, yes and no. Not in the same way that you do from, say, amphetamines. But there's that "buzz". It makes people happy, or at least less unhappy. If that's not getting high, what is?

Typically people use the term drunk to describe the effects of alcohol, but its not a big deal It might just cause weird looks in ones direction to refer to drinking for the effects as getting high rather than getting drunk.

I suppose technically "high" could be used to describe anything that feels good. Then again, I find that CNS depressants are more numbing than anything else. They lower my anxiety and inhibition a little when it comes to talking sometimes and that can lead to a feeling of "perking up", but other times alcohol just make me feel tired and numb, not particularly happy or depressed, just neutral. When I had 4 or more beers in a row topped with a shot or two of something harder at a house party (mostly because I felt that was the thing you were supposed to do) the only thing major I noticed was that I was tipsy and couldn't fully feel my legs properly anymore. I've never felt particularly happy or euphoric on alcohol. I'm really boring drunk. Unlike certain people who become annoying idiots who won't shut up when drunk I remain my introverted self. I don't see the point in binging. I really can't understand people who do it to the point of making themselves physically ill.

If its good quality then yes. I have become a bit of a foodie & gourmet with drink of late, especially with beer.
The micro breweries in my area have gotten better with quality over the last 6 years.

Also were you drink effects taste, am lucky I have pubs to suit my mood with there atmosphere.
If I want an Edwardian, Victorian, Georgian, Art Deco or Art Nouveau deco I know which local pub to go to.
The same if I what pub music (any type, the jazz plus are them best IMHO) or a quite pub to have a conversation in.

Well, I don't think that's available in my state. Since all of our liquor stores are owned by the state and they regulate stuff.

For me it's because I have horrible social anxiety, so bad that I shake sometimes. Alcohol really helps to loosen me up and open up more.

I picket up bottles of there Framboise (raspberry) for about 5 dollars a bottle (converted from UK prices).
Belgium makes great beer, as that's were Lambics and Fruit Lambics come from

Edit: About Belgium beer glassware, its the norm to serve lambics and fruit beers in champagne flute like glasses.
Trappist and Abbey ales get served in chalices and goblets. :D

Or what about gueuze? They taste like champagne!

There are a very few American gueuze out there but most of the best ones come from Belgium.

Depending on where you live, there might well be some excellent serious beer shops you can visit. They will have hundreds, possibly thousands, of beers for you to try.
