I personally find it offensive.

Someone used to write that I was weird on the wall at a place where I worked.

In that context, it would be offensive... :?
Though I'd just add below it "Damn right I am!" :P

I get called weird by friends and family but do not find it offensive. I know I am and cannot help it, but also have no desire to change.

when someone asks me if i am ret*d or i am weird, i feel very bad, and i can't help it. when someone says that about you, you get sad. "freak" or "weirdo" drives me crazy when they say it in an insulting way, but when someone is like joking and i could tell, then I don't get sad.

It all depends on the person saying it. If it is someone I am friends with or socialize with easily, it probably wouldn't bother me because I may know what they mean by saying it. But, in the past coworkers have said that I am wierd and I don't know what they mean.
If they would just tell me I think you are wierd because you go on and on about things, or you are wierd because you have wierd interests, I wouldn't mind so much because that is who I am. But if they are just being plain judgemental or mean, than I don't like it one bit.

I've never understood why people say the things they do...like when people say "you're short/tall/big/small," or "you're quiet," things like that - what kind of response are they looking for? ...thanks? I can't imagine EVER saying those things to someone (not even that they are mean, just pointless.) I guess "you're wierd," would be one of these, and I usually just say "thanks," or "...probably." And then I fake laugh to offset the awkward situation THEY just created...and then I obssess over what they said, and what I was doing, and what context it was said in, and why they said it, and how everyone who sees/talks/ect to me must be thinking the same thing...ugh.

I realize that thier concept of weird is my concept of normal, so I don't take it badly. I would not want to be "normal" to the people who find me odd. I would hate thier lives for the most part.

I always take it as a compliment, whether people mean it in a good or bad way.. I usually smile when people say that I'm weird and say nothing at all :)

Depends on the entire set of cirumstances surrounding it. Usually I take it as a compliment from friends, though when one said I was 'too weird' it upset me. But when other people who don't know me say it, usually I don't like it. As I said, it all just depends. And if i'm feeling bad anyway, I don't tend to appreciate my friends calling me weird either ... but usually I take it as a compliment, in general.

I usually take it as a compliment, i'm not really bothered that much by being called weird because people have been doing it for a long time. It just doesn't bother me anymore i guess, i'm sort of desensitized to it.

I get upset if people call me weird, because the word sounds so harsh to me.

However, if people call me weird as a joke, I won't be offended. Take this for example:-
Me: Each morning I eat one grape for breakfast
Friend (laughing in a nice way): Hahaha, you're so weird!
Me: Hehe, yeah I know!

This example is the offensive version of being called weird:-
Friend (glaring at me critically): Josie - you're weird!
Me: I'm not
Friend: You are! It's a fact!
(I go away crying)

ps - strangely, I can understand jokes, and I can understand them by reading the expression on people's faces or the tone of their voice. It's just a symptom of AS I have not got. But I've got other areas of it severe though, like high anxieties.

Nah, because the only time I'm ever called weird is by my brother or something when I'm banging on about stuff and he's like "oh not again".

I take pride in my weirdness, and if I call someone else weird, I mean it as a compliment.

I just tell those people that they're jealous that the voices talk to me and not them. :P
