Hadron - We met at the station on sunday, and that worked fine. People are more likely to get lost trying to find the center of a city they've never been to before than they are if they just meet at the station then move elsewhere as a group.

I'd be happy to make a secondary trip back to the station to pick up latecomers (if any), if that would make them feel more
comfortable :) Its very likely that ill be late myself anyway.

exactly, it's no big deal.

don't think i met you sunday? i had to leave just after aspie chav arrived (i have a role in a circus show).

i found it to be a very positive experience tho and would definately be up for a meet up again!

all good plans. That area is close to the bus/coach station too (not that anyone seems to use them these days)

Pretentious people who believe they are better than everyone else by and large. Whats ironic is they dont select on academic ability, more like on background and lots of lame reasons that dont usually relate to intelligence. They confuse working hard and having a rich daddy with intelligence.

we are doing an 'aerial' ensemble peice based around the Noir genre of film. mainly i am on static trapeze though i do get to swing it a bit, i will also be on the 'silks' in one scene. i get to be the love interest which scares me. i am having to learn a bit of physical theatre and i find it really hard as i am never quite sure what my face is doing at the best of times

yup, hopefully catch you next time - wherever people decide on!

Not really true. Material wealth doesn't affect your chances of getting into Cambridge University, you just need ridiculously high grades. I suppose if your parents bribed your A Level tutors to fix your grades, wealth could get you in easily, but I don't think that's a common occurence. Of course, some of them *are* obnoxious people, but not for reasons of financial status - tends to be that they look down on everyone else because they think that smarter equals better. I've met a fair few of them at frisbee tournaments, and most of them are reasonably nice (with the exception of the Kings College team, who are arrogant cheating b**tards). It's a very common misconception that Cambridge Uni students are all from a wealthy background, but most of the ones I've taken the time to talk to are in a worse financial situation than I am.

As I said earlier, I don't like them (as a whole) either - but that's more of a 'guilty until proven innocent' attitude, a product of growing up in Cambridge. I still believe in giving them a chance to prove me wrong.

They are not allowed to select by school anyone and a lot of Oxbridge student actually come from state education believe it or not.

Yes it had those sorts of people. But it was also a big place for socialists. Now student don’t really care about politics that much, the NUS is basically little more than a party organiser.

I have 5 A's at A-level, just to clear up the grades one. Oxbridge make offers to state school students that are unlikely to meet their grades, Grammar School students, or just pretentious snobs that happen to go to state school (but have lots of expensive music lessons etc). Occasionally offers will be made to students that actually deserve it, but most are not. (I have been through the whole silly process at Oxford). When I went as visited Oxford, and had interviews, there were a few agreeable people there, but a fair few of them have the academic ability that I would expect for someone who goes to supposedly the best university in the UK. Which Uni are you at, i didnt know Cambridge had more than one uni.

They dont actually have any rules, asides you get paired up with a tutor and interviewed, then if the tutor likes you then you get and offer. The obvious problem with the system is tutors see tutoring undergraduates as a chore, so will pick the ones that take the least time to do, i.e. the ones who have peaked already.

I'm going to do the sensible thing and leave this argument. The one thing worse than arguing about religion is arguing with someone who didn't know what they were talking about to begin with :P

You’re wrong again. Actually they have to take a certain number from state education and have more rules than that.

Besides you’re talking about academic selection rather than snobbery. So what?

It is well known that there is some degrees are better elseware. Bath with Civil Engineering, Imperial Electrical Engineering, Brunel Special Engineering Program before it was defunct, etc. No doubt people apply for the name, but hose people are just mugs, because even employers are wising up to that.

University itself is overrated. I’m a self taught programmer and uni drop out. It is graduates the make the greatest gafs and are less into the work as a whole.

But all of this is irrelevant. Please stick your head in the ground :P

Uni is indeed overrated. I have seen post grads come from the worst unis in the uk go on to earn high salaries.

But if your career requires strict discipline like physics and math then go for oxbridge. But if you are taking those subjects, good luck finding a job
