But working in the library may be better than sitting at home with computer. You may have some conversations with another people in library. And it is impossible to know exactly where you will find some interesting people and friends.

I understand your feelings. But if you talk to people more often this uncomfortable feeling will become weaker and less annoying. And in what social situations do you feel anxiety: e.g. is it easy for you to buy something (and talk to seller) or ask the road?

P.S. Library is a quiet place and I don't think that you will be too nervous in it.

Sometimes you can find not only "book buddys", but even "glamour" students copying the whole books on xerox. Several years ago I've seen a strange freak which supposed that he is Ra and tried to convince another visitors in it in the Russian State Library (aka "Leninka").

Sometimes I'm nervous around people too, especially around new people. May be a lot of extraverts think that social chit-chat is a kind of rest and having fun; for you it is a work around yourself, not very easy, but needed (because you will have some dialogs with people in further life - e.g. at work, at colledge). Social chit-chat is a skill too and it is possible to improve it and have less anxiety; but it is impossible to do it theoretically, practical work is essential.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

Autism Speaks will NEVER speak for me

Are you nervous around other gamers?
If you see someone with a book you read or might want to read, or an author you are familiar with, make a comment to them? Tell about how you liked it, or that you like the same thing?
If you are too shy, you could ask about chatting later online, then move towards more face to face stuff?
