Hello Im going to my first "adult" party tonight iv been to party's before however how does an "adult" party differs from a normal party? Is there even a difference apart from the fact there will be adults?Any tips for these kind of partys?

Adult is meaning that there will be alcohol an no children.

(iv edited this post to make it more clear)

I have no way of knowing what an "adult party" means in your situation. It can be as innocent as someone who wants to make it clear that children are expressly uninvited, which is perfectly reasonable in some cases. It can mean that there will be drinking. It can mean that people will be engaged in activities that are unsuitable for discussion in this forum.

what's the age level at this party? is it college students or people older than that? it depends a lot on that factor. actually, i've never been to a college party in five years of being an undergrad. haha. but, i have been to parties with people who are older than that. since they tend to have more experience and a higher maturity level, you can expect less drama and perhaps acceptance. i guess it depends on the social circle. oh, and one other thing... apparently one shouldn't go around saying one is drunk, if one happens to drink. not a big deal, but apparently it's a childish thing to do. i think because there is alcohol, it's assumed there would be drunk people... and most people can usually tell if you've been drinking, so it's kind of a moot point...i made that mistake once. i was so drunk i had no idea what was going on! but, it was a fun party for sure.

have fun!! :D

Does this mean it's one of those parties organized specifically for the purpose of selling 'adult toys'? I understand some people do that today the way women used to have 'parties' to sell Tupperware or Avon products.

Or is an 'adult party' just a euphemism for 'swinger's bash'?

If you are going to a party, not a bunch of kids hanging out, but an honest to gosh stand up, hold your beverage in you hand your hor'derve in the other and mingle sorta thing, I have one suggestion that you can do at home with no extra expense.

Hygiene. Get in that shower and soap up and shampoo and do a good job, then brush your teeth and tongue and the insides of your cheeks and get some good mouth wash in there and swish it around. Make sure what ever you got going on your face is groomed, that is, if you have a beard, trim it nicely, if you don't then shave under a good light and do a fine job. USE DEODERANT and keep any scent to an absolute minimum. Then look at your fingernails, are they at leasted clipped even and clean under the nail? Then clean clothes from the underwear out.

Look in the mirror before you go and see you are neatly dressed, all your buttons in the right buttonholes, your collar is straightened and if you have a tie (even if you are not wearing a jacket) is straight and the ends hanging nicely. Give your hair a couple more minutes than you usually do and then slip a pack of sugarless gum in your pocket or mints or tictacs and you are ready to go.

The mints or gum is good to break the ice if someone actually TALKS to you, if you can't find anything to say, just offer them one and take one yourself.

When you have already prepared for a social situations, and are confident of your presentablility in society, there are far fewer opportunities for awkward moments.

Oh, yeah, and a smile isn't going to break your face, so go ahead and smile at people.

Have fun

Peel down that booze. That's a good jumping off point. If you do that everything else will fall into place (for better or worse, no way to know for sure, but that's part of the fun of it).

ummm i offered gum to someone once because i was going to have one and i believed that it was polite to offer it to the person i was talking to, instead the person was kind of offended - "what, are you implying that i have bad breath?" - she made it like she was joking but i thought she might actually be serious and just didn't want to embarrass me. now i don't offer gum unless it's immediately after a meal and everyone likes a gum in those situations.

In my mind an 'adult' party is one where people don't play board games, make things, have a fancy dress competetition, and do other fun stuff. They won't have a theme - it's simply people standing around talking, usually with some form of alchohol and food available. They're the kind of party people have at a pub or a restaurant. People will dress up smart/casual, so don't go in wearing jeans or a costume unless the host says so on the invitation.

This is usually known as a 'cocktail party' and is for socializing as the amusement in itself.

I even came 1st in the kaoke  . Its been ages since iv had so much fun. Luckly I had 5 glasses of water and a pizza before I went to bed to make up for the alcohol I consumed. In our area these parties are called "Fantasia Parties". Just in case you may need to identify one in the future.

I avoid them like the plague. I couldn't imagine what type of shenanigans I would get myself into.

Thank goodness for alcohol bridging social situations. That stuff is great for Karaoke!

Remember your morning coffee. :coffee:

1) Don't touch anyone inappropriately (this applies to sex and violence)
2) Know your alcohol limits. (Don't exceed your previous alcohol maximum by more than one drink. If you've never drank before, have only one drink. If you've never had more than one, have no more than two, etc.)
3) Keep your underwear on at all times.

Obey these rules and there's not much that can go wrong.

@Sinsholy: Yes I lobe thos victories.

@Nansick: I will avoid thos partys however I wish I was invited to a Windows 7 party  I sung karoke before I drank lol and the alcohol kept my embarrassment of the aftermath of the karaoke at bay. Befor I I went to bed I sobered up by eating a pizza and drinking w6 glasses of water. I went to bed and did not wake up with a headache however the day after that I had a head ache could that have been a delayed hangover if that possible? Or is it somthing els?

@ASP: I will bare these rule in mind
