Is there such a thing as a professional agency or organization that teaches social skills?

There are. For instance, >this is one out of San Francisco. These sorts of outfits tend to run out of more metropolitan cities, though. The downside is that they can be a little difficult to find, and are dreadfully expensive. Also, many of these 'entrepreneurs' unfortunately come from the pick-up community, so it's very possible their perspective is tainted by misogyny or selfishness. Not everyone falls for that, though.
It's often purported that these 'clinics' are not worth the money. But I have no experience with them, so I don't know.

Personally, I think it's a better idea to read books and internet sites instead. It's free, and there's potentially more info and perspectives available. Furthermore, you're not restricted to one or two peoples' information and perspective.

There's a lot of good sites and articles out there, but sometimes they're hard to find.
Hopefully >This thread can help.

Thanks, but I'm more interested in learning all aspects of social interaction, not just 'dating and attracting women' (as unlikely as that may be for me).

Check out community colleges. Some of them offer evening courses or weekend workshops related to hobbies, but also self-improvement. I took a course quite a few years ago that was called "Communication Skills" which sounds vague, but it actually included a lot of practical skills learning about socializing, things like body language and eye contact, making conversation, etc.

You might also find something similar through your municipal social services. If they offer it, it would be as an adjunct to their employment resources branch probably.

Also, the city public school boards (at least where I live, I don't know about Pennsylvania) offer a wide assortment of night classes covering everything from jewelery making to basic auto mechanics. They also sometimes offer self improvement courses and they are reasonably priced.

I don't know where in PA you are, but there's one at UPenn:

I'm in central PA.

That is just about exactly what I wanted.

I could possibly afford the $800 fee, but I'd have to find somewhere to live...or I could commute?

Also, it says the program started in February.

Thanks, Sound, crocus, and bee33.

Sweet! Let us know if you give it a shot.
I personally would love to go to something like that, too. Keep us updated.

Also, I like your new avatar, hehe.

Uh, yeah...

I don't ever want to speak in front of a group, or learn how to lead a 'team'.

I'm starting to tremble in fear just thinking about it...

Yea, I even have a hard time going to family functions -- at least my in-law family. Therapy and meds help though!
:)

" . . . explores evolutionary, anthropological and human developmental roots of social behavior . . . "
http://www.med.upenn.edu/add/sldp_group.html

That's still trying to left-brain it, and the goal is to develop a repertoire of right-brain skills.
