I learned how to "speak NT" by watching ALOT of stand up comedy on tv and over the internet. During i would freezeframe facial expressions to memorize them and i would memorize jokes and how to walk and mimic other peoples voices, i learned how to use my voice in a more pleasing way. I gained a scense of humour by parroting stand up routines because after pounding thouse things in my mind i started to actually understand them and got the ability to crack jokes and find my own humor.

I also learned from tv shows and movies. I could study the faces and body language because scince they were on a screen i could actually stare and pick out fine details with the help of pause, rewind and play. I could repeat and repeat and repeat the computer file or tape or dvd to fully grasp social ques and gain conversational skills. You cant do that in real life...unless your Adam Sandler in "Click".
Without modern technology id be completely socially inept and still hopelessly baffled.

Has anyone else benifitted from modern media as a learning tool to pick up social ques? If so how much of a change in your ability to read others did you aquire by use of these everyday media sources?

Sitcoms for me. I learned a lot of social rules from them.

I personally stay far away from television and movies when I want to learn social cues.

They are paid actors. It is not reality. Much of their body language isn't genuine.

Almost all movies and tv shows have cliche elements to them and other social behavior such as language that people do not normally use in real life, so I could be learning incorrect information while I learn correct information.

The best example is to just study real body language at real social events.

Agreed. But what's amusing is that I see a lot of NTs learning all their communication styles from the TV now. You see this especially in younger people. A lot of the flaws and odd disconnects you get from bad acting become part of the transmission of social currency.
