my mom is always asking me if "i'm sure" several times after i make up my mind. i get irritated and annoyed very quickly which is bad, i know. today i snapped at my mom and i couldn't restrain myself.

mom: "do you want any more of this soup?"
me: "no, this is enough"
mom: "are you sure?"
me: "yes"
mom: "that's enough for you?"
me: "yes."
mom: "there's a lot more left... "
and then i said
"yes. i'm fine!"

i find this annoying because (even though this probably isn't the case) i get the feeling she thinks i am too foggy to make my own decisions. like, i'm too stupid to know what i want unless she attempts to pull a different answer out of me by repeating the same question.

i think i am too quick to lose my patience. i know her intentions were good but i get annoyed by this. how can i get her to stop sooner? does anyone else experience this?

Ack! I do that to my boyfriend. :( He snaps, too. On the other hand, I experience this myself. It's like, "did I stuttuh?" I guess you can elaborate by saying, "yes, thank you, I'm fine," since that seems pretty clear. :?

It's kind of like wanting to give you stuff because we come pre-programmed perform activities like feeding offspring and providing attire. Giving you stuff like food probably sets off some minor dopamine infusion in our brains . We wouldn't do it otherwise and you would have to forage for yourselves and/or starve. Hence repeated dopamine release upon successful feeding= more feeding attempts to get more dopamine?

i think guys especially want to feel sharp and decisive so i think they hate being doted on in a motherly way. lol. i used to do that to guys too but i realized they were probably annoyed.
and yeah, ive tried saying that before. no matter what i say to my mom she won't take my answer seriously. i've tried "yes, i know i'll be full if i have more. this is fine, really" and "i'm positive" etc, etc. she is always doing this. :bom:

That reminds me of a game my older half-brother used to play on me when I was little. He'd keep asking me "are you sure?" and "are you positive?" and I'd just say "yes" each time.
