The person may be uncomfortable with what they imagine to be your underlying motives for making such a personal comment about their appearance. Perhaps they think you're trying to proposition them for sex?

That's the predominant reason why it makes me uncomfortable... Also, if the compliment is paid publicly, it calls unneeded attention from other people around. The guy who runs the Variety store down the street from me would regularly compliment my "shape" after I had my baby boy. It would cause everyone else within ear shot to turn and look at me. :oops:

I like it whenever someone compliments me on my looks. It's one of those ego-boosters that helps me get through the rest of the day. :)
