How many of you have a hard time keeping secrets? Is this an autism thing?

I can hold a confidence in private matters, but apart from the matter of mere gossip, I cannot keep something "secret" if someone else really should (or needs to) know ...

... and now I just must reminisce ...

"Now, we're not ones to go 'round spreading rumors.
"No really, we're just not the gossiping kind!
"You'll never hear one of us repeating gossip,
"So you'd better be sure to listen close the first time."
(from "HeeHaw", a few decades ago)

Not sure if it's an Aspie thing one way or the other...

I tend to be good at keeping other people's secrets. If someone says it's private or a secret, I'm pretty much not going to tell anyone else. I just don't feel much need to pass on information. Unless I can see some real value to another person and then I'll try to disguise it so I pass on what is useful, but do not betray another person's confidence. If I do pass on information, I try to obfuscate the issue sufficiently that no one can figure out the source.

I amn big on secrets, and most stuff is need to know, if I told you I would have to kill you.

I wish others had any sense of privacy.

The exception -

Unless there is a GOOD reason, if you tell me you have told my wife. Which bothered my mother [even though anything you told her or my sister went straight through to the other].

I'm fine with keeping secrets. I wouldn't like it if I trusted somebody with a secret and they betrayed my trust, so I don't do it to other people.

If I know it's a secret, I can keep it forever.

Yeah that's the key inflection. If I don't know it's sensitive, I can give things away accidentally. If I'm told explicitly that a thing must never be mentioned, then I won't.

I'm good at keeping secrets because I relish them, like they're little goodies. I tend to keep things to myself that aren't secret, too. I like just having little bits of info that no one else gets. I have tons.

I have always been really good at keeping secrets. A big part of it was my complete lack of interest in gossip. I also have a terrible time knowing where I stand with people in personal relationships so someone opening up and telling me something that they haven't with others or just a select few was one of the few ways I could gage that. Which is probably why I hold them close like precious things. So I can relate to happymusic about them being precious.

Yeah, I don't like gossip either. I think that might be why people seem to routinely confide things in me, even if I don't really have a close relationship with them. Weird.
