As part of a big networking campaign, I am trying to get involved with events with my university's alumni association. There is a group for Texas State alumni in the Houston area (the university is in San Marcos, in the San Antonio-Austin area), and they are having a mixer at an Irish pub near downtown Houston in a couple of weeks.

The thing is: I don't drink. So how should I do this? Should I just have a good time without alcohol, do such places also offer non-alcoholic beverages?

Most pubs and bars offer some non-alcoholic drinks (for designated drivers, those who don't drink, etc.). As someone who doesn't drink alcohol at all, I have never found it an issue on my travels. Usual options are orange or other fruit juice, lemonade, cola, iced tea, sometimes tea or coffee.
If you need an excuse for not drinking, some meds react with alcohol, or you should be able to say that drinking is just not your thing. Most people will accept that.
