How to make friends????
I'm going back to College but am scared! I have NO friends (outside of one and her sister) that's 2 friends!) They both know I have AS and are very understanding of my quirks (example the friend had IMO ugly glasses on I said those are ugly took them off her face and stashed them in my pocket) She smiled and didn't seem to mind (Yes she's THAT COOL!! !) I was curious with returning to College HOW do I make friends? I was planning on doing a presentation but don't want to do it ASAP when returning to classes (since when I got a paper done early before I got dirty looks) UH IMO it's not MY FAULT you are social don't have time to write a paper/aren't fascinated by the field/don't have the time as I do etc. (you get the idea.) Another thing NOT to do (I saw a bunch of guys chatting up videogames I but in So the new Mario game) (Again got stares) I HATE stares they are embarrassing and make me feel inferior/and stupid!! !! ! Lastly don't go to the teachers office DAILY! (I already emailed 2 teachers and asked whether the course required a paper Anatomy said no but I could present a presentation to my classmates. (If I'm passionate I can DO a speech and I think if I gather good data/set up a poster board etc. I can get a presentation ready in 3 months) (Classes don't start till Aug.30th. Do I be a book worm? Focus on your studies only? I'm kind of lost. BTW someone suggested Community College wasn't a good place to make friends agree/disagree? I would hate that because I WANT to make friends/socialize like my NT friend!! !! !! !! (She practically goes to the beach weekly and goes out alot!) Thanks.
Who said community college is a bad place to make friends?!?! I'm in a community college and my friends from there are the best! They all know about my AS and don't care about my quirks.
About focusing only on schoolwork, if you do nothing but your schoolwork, then, first off, you will run yourself down, trust me, I did it my first semester and ended up crashing 5 weeks in. Plus, if schoolwork is your life, how are you going to make friends? If your college has a club day, where all the clubs can set up tables in one place to get new students to join, check it out! Join a couple clubs that interest you; my first semester I joined my college's S.T.A.R. Club (Students for Tolerance And Respect) and I'm going to Washington DC with the club next spring semester.
Besides clubs, try striking up a conversation with someone in one of your more elective-type classes! If you're both there you'll probably have something in common. Small talk is a royal pain for me, but that helped me make a couple of friends. Classes with Labs are great for this, especially if you choose your own lab groups; work with some of the same people all semester and you'll have at least one friend in the group.
Hope this helps!

If life gives you lemons, make grape juice, sit back and watch the world wonder how you did it.
