If this is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it. Does anyone have a memory that seems normal to them, but to other people you are either; lying, remember too much, making up stories. people tell me all this stuff. I was reading look me in the eye by John Elder Robinson and he said that people questioned him of his memory and it's common for aspies to have more vivid memories than most people. I often bring up stuff that happened 13 or 14 years ago and everyone goes "who cares" or I remember classmates first and last names and people go "how do you remember all this stuff". Or I often remember problems such as the exact way I dealt with a bully, while most people I ask would go "oh i dont really remember what i said to that person, but I sure know it got him off my back".
Idk, do people lie and say they don't remember or are NTs memories really not as vivid as aspies? remembering things is good a lot of the times, but sometimes I remember too much and it causes me pain

Not so much a better memory, but a different memory.

I had an experience where I remembered my neighbor's dog's name, but not hers. I remembered what she looked like, but I could not remember what kind of person she was.

I think I, if not other aspies, have more of a factual, and less of a gestalt memory.

You must have DDR3 memory, judging from your experiences. :)

I have a weird memory. When I was in school, a teacher could be giving a lecture and if I found it boring (which I usually did), my mind would wander and I'd day dream and think about other stuff. Needless to say, I wasn't focussed on anything so when it came to answer questions or take tests, I'd be SOL because I wouldn't remember anything the teacher said. Once I got a laptop, if I was bored, I'd surf the web, play games like chess or majong, etc. I wasn't really paying attention to the teacher, but my mind was focussed on something. What I found out was that while doing this, the teacher could stop and ask a question and I would be able to repeat him almost verbatim. I did better on tests because I'd read a test question and associate what it was referring to, to what I was playing or reading about at that time and I'd recall (again, nearly verbatim) what the teacher was saying about it.

What is DDR3 memory?

I remember pooping in the bathtub and running around the house naked..I remember getting potty trained and my training potty had a music box that played the song "How Dry I am" ..and I knew that was the name of the song because my grandmother who potty trained me would sing the song and that is how i learned to talk...through my grandmother drilling me with songs constantly...

I recall very early episodes of Saturday Night Live..because my parents would wake me up for it..

it was a joke. DDR3 is currently the best type of RAM. I guess RAM could be thought of as short-term memory and your hard-drive as long-term memory.

I have a vivid very long term memory and can remember mu very very early childhood in details.

I could not only draw the floorplan to the house I lived in when I was 2, but was able to find it on a map from the center of the city it's in because my mother used to drive my father downtown all the time and I knew where the housing development was in relation to downtown.

I have memories earlier then that and am always met with skepticism when I tell people of them. I've managed to shock my parents though.

My immediate short term memory isn't very good though.

I remember the floor plan of the house we moved to when I was an infant. We went and visited it years later...when I must have been around 12...My ASish mom and I...it had been rennovated by yuppies...There were doors placed where they previously hadn't been... and a wrought iron spiral staircase leading to the attic had been installed. We asked the yuppies if they had had any problems with ghosts, and they said no.

I have a memory like that. I ask my family members, if they remember stuff that happened during my childhood. Things that are ordinary, or funny. They tell me, that they don't remember all the things about our past experiences, like I do. I used to have a really hard time communicating with them, because of that. I'd bring up everyday memories, just to keep from talking about my special interests, just for that to happen.

No one believes me except my family when I remember things from my childhood. It amazes my mother when I tell her about what I was thinking during certain situations when I was a baby and she remembers it too but it makes more sense this time.

I remember two events from very young childhood. One was when I was just over a year old, a very bad fight between my parents; the other was about 6 months later, after he had been killed, and my mother was screaming abuse at me, blaming me for her woes. My elderly neighbour confirmed the latter years later as she was the one who rescued me and calmed my mother down. It sucks that the former is the only memory that I have of my father.

My mother has one of those wonderful minds that completely forgets or ignores bad things so she doesn't remember either event.
