Happens to me all the time.
Today I was in one of our gardens and my aunt goes "hey don't step on that flower!", I say, "I'm not going to step on it, im aware of were it is and I'm only right next to it. The leaves are touching me but that's it." and she says "god, why do you always have to argue with me!?" I say, "I'm not arguing" she says, "well then what do you call that?", me, "just stating facts" her, "why do you always do this?".
I really don't get people. Its not like I'm arguing my opinion, or going on about something subjective, I'm just stating what I know, and what they aren't aware of. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm not making a joke, I'm not secretly insinuating something, I'm doing nothing more than literally explaining myself, because doing anything else is unnatural for me. I'm always told that I'm argumentative, but I don't feel like I am.
Yes, yes, yes!
All she wanted back was something like, "Oh ok. I'll be careful." You gave an answer like I would have given, and the "excess" information probably came across as being snide or condescending.
My boyfriend tells me, "I only asked what time it was, not how to make the watch," when I get carried away with details. I can see why it drives him nuts when he asks something that only requires a yes/no answer. If he asks "Did you go to the store yet?" he doesn't really need to know every item I bought, which is what he's likely to get. But if he asks something like, "Do you think Alvin Greene is qualified to be a Senator," then just expects yes/no, it drives ME nuts, and he can't see why.
