I have discovered a listening / oral-communication technique that might help some people...

When I listen to people, often either tap my foot, or more often, tap my finger tips together, while I am trying to learn the cadence of the person speaking.
I sometimes do this while I speak too.

If it can be seen, it may have a second effect; it suggests the rhythm of the listener. They might pick up on, and adjust their cadence, because your movements present an emotional contagion.

What would help me listen, is a universal hand gesture, like a "One Second," index finger thing, that would suggest a pause to the speaker, so that information could be chunked/digested/parsed.

[Yes, I am really screwed up to have thought of this.]

[When listening to someone, I often have to spool the information, chop it into different sized pieces, and peel the information I want from the rest, but this grows tiring.]
