Who on this forum swears a lot? Moderately? Hardly at all?

Today someone showed me a tweet that contained the F-word, to point out "I know this is language that you won't like". This is despite me having used the word earlier on today, when I was in a panic over something.

I seem to come across as the type who just wouldn't possibly swear, when it escapes people's notice that I occasionally in fact do. I've got to that point where I've realised you can't survive in this society coming across as completely docile, without that "edge" you would have if you swear. So, swearing is basically OK, within reason.

Also, it causes great mirth when a swear word is played in Scrabble. It causes several weeks' worth of amusement.

I swear to myself all the time, in the presence of others, I moderate myself a little, but I do still swear.

I suspect I'm in the same boat as you. I'm generally thought as pretty docile, so whenever someone hears me utter a swear word, they are usually pretty shocked.

I used to say 'f-ing this f-ing that' but mainly when I was angry. These days I use petty swear words like 'bloody' but not the more harsh ones unless I am REALLY upset.

The only exception to this is the fact that I suffer from coprolalia (involuntary swearing) as part of my Tourettes and therefore swear rather a lot...

I swear a lot. Tons. In private. In public, not so much. I also love playing dirty words in Scrabble, which makes me laugh.

Also: Tourette's Karaoke Christmas video with lots of involuntary swearing!

I never swear. Such words intimidate me.

minced oaths such as "fuzz" are still oaths. IOW you are swearing but using euphenisms. swearing is any kind of angry outburst or expression of negative emotion, no matter if in speech or gesture, no matter the exact word used as it is the underlying meaning of the language used more than the language itself which constitutes swearing.
so your real issue is with particular words and not so much swearing itself.

I don't believe there is such a thing as a "bad" word.

If used appropriately these words are a vital piece of one's verbal toolbox. That being said, there are inappropriate times to use certain words and this took me some time to learn as a child. I swear often when called for in private, but to be used in public it needs to be either appropriate to the conversation or necessary to provide the proper punctuation to a point.

While I recognize other people's feelings about certain words, I have never understood them. How is a word something that bothers someone? I can't relate so (as is my usual response to things I don't understand about other people) it just seems silly to me.

I tend to swear more than I should (my mum really doesn't like swearing at all) I usually moderate it at work (especially infront of clients), with the other staff I'm a bit more casual about it.

My only real problem is that one of the main words I use is c*** as in "useless c***", "idiot c***", etc and one of the staff really hates that word above all others.

I swear quite a bit, but I only swear around certain people in certain places. School? no. Around my grandparents? no. My mom's fine with me swearing around her as long as every other word isn't an f-bomb.

I don't swear much. Mostly just when I stub my toe or realize I forgot to do something. I'm not offended by swearing (they're only words, after all), but I've been told I seem like the kind of person who would be.

I swear quite a bit, and I will admit, when it is unnecessary.
