I *think* (am not entirely sure) it's a meaningless ... discussion, of make-up and shopping and celebrity males (how said males look) and how males look in general ... something like that. I think.

I'm pretty sure most of us grow out of that in junior high. Except for girls who own horses, and then it's more professional than "OMG CUTE PONEEE!! !"

Boys, makeup, clothes, hair, boys, shopping, gossip, bitching.

I enjoy it, but not an overdose :p

Apart from occasionally the celebrity males part, I can think of nothing more mind-numbingly boring than a girly chat. :(

Occasionally I've tried to chat to other women about computers/politics/history/psychology/various other topics. I just get stared at as if I'd suddenly started speaking in Japanese.

I'm no good at girly chat...I just don't get it. Even celebrity males.

Basically, they talk about nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing... and a little more nothing!

Technically speaking, "girly chat" is a way of explaining your feelings, assessing the status quo and to reciprocate social expectations. The topics vary but it's a stylized way of talking that identifies each other.
I can do some amount of relationship girly chat (he said, she said) but I have a low tolerance for it. I differ too much from "girls" to relate to them and their lifestyles. Other married people are either selfish or have bizarre values. Other singles (at my age, late 30's) are in total denial about their social skills that we can't honestly discuss relationships.
There are other skills that I don't have that are included in girly chat, like the "understanding" exclamations, "He said that?! That's awful!" "Why are guys like that?!" "You pooooooor thing! I'm so sorry!"

Most girly chats are mostly a bunch of gossip. All they want to talk about is who is doing who. Who is sleeping with who. And who is humping who. I excuse myself from the conversation when they start talking that junk. It is all just a bunch of cattiness and back biting and talking about people.

A girly chat is any conversation I'm allowed to participate in.

This is another reason I find girly chat impossible. Half of it seems to consist of discussion and jokes about how awful/stupid/useless men are. But when I like men a lot better than I do other women, that kind of thing just makes me feel awkward and irritated. In a battle of the sexes, I'm inclined to take the man's side. :?

I will occasionally stick up for the female side, just jokingly. But normally I'll take the men's side too.

"Girly" chat may also discuss women's problems

I find girls who constantly prattle about the "uselessness" of men boring. "Men are useless", cue hysterical laughter. I don't laugh because I've heard that cliché 5678892 times.

Anyways, sometimes girly chat can be interesting, especially when the participants are discussing personal and health issues. It's surprising how some people can be so candid.
