I'm just curious.
Alcohol is the only drug that I've ever head having much of an effect on social ability (by lessening inhibition and in general making other people as perceptive as a turnip), so I'm wondering if anyone else uses it for that reason. I imagine that it must be common enough among people on the ASD spectrum. I personally do, It's not a terribly safe thing to do but it was a conscious choice I made, even before I started drinking.

Yeah, I do. They don't call it liquid courage for nothing.

That said, it's not something I need. But it helps, I guess. If anything, it gives me confidence and a "don't care what happens" attitude, which isn't always a good thing. And when I'm sober and around someone who is an annoying drunk, it annoys me. So maybe it is a hindrance when I talk to the sober when I am drunk.

But two drunk people who meet while drunk are best friends for the night...

... for at least as long as one's supply holds out! After that, things can quickly go downhill.

As you are only 17 years old, I would hold out on this particular "remedy" until you have gained a few more years. It's too easy to get into trouble with ETOH at your age.

I've been careful. I deferred drinking for five years to make sure it wouldn't turn me into a frat boy alco, which it hasn't. I don't like alcohol, as in taste, and I get a very suicidally depressed the day after drinking (although I know it's purely biochemical, so I'll never bother acting on it). I wouldn't bother if there was any other way, but I've suppose I've got to play the cards I've been given...

Always a good idea to hall ass ASAP if you stay overnight at a party, the mornings are awkward as hell

You first considered drinking when you were 12?

Nah, I'm too afraid of getting sick to be drunk, or at least intoxicated enough for it to effect my outgoingness. I'll only ever drink one thing at a time, then stick to soft drinks after that.

I would use it for a social tool, its just the downsides:

Getting way too silly after too many and possibly annoying for the other people
Feeling really depressed when I get home the next day
Headache
Not much control over movement
It tastes so bad!! I would only drink it for its advantages, not the taste (People say cider tastes like apples; WTF?? More like cat pee )

Yes.
A shot of vodka before having to go to a social event is a big help.
Then several bottles of wine.

Alchopops taste nice, WKD tastes like red bull I think. I don't see the point in drinking if it tastes horrible, then again if I do have a drink it's for the taste only and not for the effect.

alcohol is great for cleaning and disinfection. as an antiseptic it is ok in dilute quantities, well away from orifices and especially the eyes. as a social lubricant it is a blunt instrument which can do as much damage as benefit. as a balm for the psyche it is also a blunt instrument, softening the good times as well as the bad.

Well put. And for the reasons stated above should really be avoided by teenagers.

I find that alcohol sometimes inhibits me socially moreso. For example, if I am not having a good time at a social outing and no one is talking to me or discussing anything interesting, the alcohol makes me care even less how I'm being socially perceived by the other people. If I drink enough to be drunk and am bored, I have no problem sitting there in silence or turning my attention to something else.

No, it just makes my word recall abilites worse (dysnomia, I think is the term), which is probably my biggest obsticle to socializing.

For what it's worth, I get better results from stimulants.

Man, why couldn't alcohol have been a stimulant.
