I think we all have encountered this out in public.

She seems nice enough when you meet her but in truth you are just an audience to her monologues. Don't waste your time telling her anything. She's the only one whose life experience matters.

I indulge because I know she must need someone to listen....other times I'm not in the mood so I stay out of the gym therapy pool where she exercises every night.

She tends to harp on her perceived ethnic superiority when talking to me or others. She is not real interested in how other people live.

Anyone ever prefer to exercise without all the socializing?

Ethnic superiority---what is she--nuts? LOL Which ethnic group does she find "superior?"

If I'm going to exercise, I'd rather not talk during the actual exercising. It distracts me.

I've known MANY Italians in my time. I'm a NYC resident; there were whole neighborhoods full of people of Italian descent when I was growing up.

Never, once, did I ever hear of ANY Italian, even those who are loud and prideful, speak of their "ethnic superiority."

All I would do, really, is laugh inside. The absurdity of it all!

All things Italian was my special interest at one time.....yeah I appreciate what you are saying. Perhaps it's an issue of hers.

Italians sometimes can be loud and boisterous---and even boastful. Especially Italian-Americans from Brooklyn. Once Italians move to the suburbs, they usually lose that "loudness, boisterousness, etc," and become like "general Americans."

Personally, I think this person is "off her rocker." Like I said, I've met some real doozy Italians in my time. Not one talked about some sort of "Italian superiority."

P.S. She's from Brooklyn and most of their family is now in South Florida.

Again, I don't want to know anyone's life history or political leanings at the gym nor do I want to talk about other gym members. I'm there to exercise than relax in the therapy pool.

Yeah....I'm sort of the same way.....when I do go to the gym (I guess I should start going again! LOL)

Krafty, I knew I could count on you. Perhaps it is a cultural thing on her part and a touch of something else too.

I don't like gyms much at all. They are always crowded and full of annoying people. I would much rather chase my cats around the house any day. I don't like deal with people like the monologue lady and I don't like dealing with kids running around the pool and locker room areas screaming and invading my privacy. I wish my area could have an adults only gym.

She's a storyteller. Just got her GED a couple years yet claims she was the division manager for a national brand cookie company in San Francisco amongst other feats.
