Oh help me, I am throwing myself into a social situation where I don't know anyone except from a little email through the internet. I wanted to band together others that have the same interest as I do, which is urban speleology....the interest in old buildings, things underground, abandoned missile silos, etc. I REALLY SUCK as small talk, but the idea of more people interested in the same thing in the same city that I live has piqued my interest. Anyone have pointers on my first meeting of others I haven' met yet but am eager to meet?

You have a lot of guts to do something like that.

Try to let the others do a lot of talking. Make everyone sit in a circle, one by one, they introduce themselves and tell a little bit of themselves. So you ask a lot of questions, and let them answer.

Like:

Has anyone seen.....

Does anyone know.....

Can somebody tell me......

Did you see......

That way someone else is the center of attention, not you, and someone else is doing the talking.
