This might sound mad but has happened to me a good few times when I meet new people, its not really upsetting but I find it quite funny. What happens is when I meet a person for the first time and there's a silence for a few minutes, I would try and start a conversation just by saying something like(if we have mutual friends) "how do you know so and so?" Now instead of answering me the person would get up and walk away without looking at me and disappear for a few minutes, then come back and continue the conversation as if nothing has happened. After this we would generally get on quite well. Does this happen to anyone else and why do you think it happens?

If you mean "continue the conversation" as in "new person comes back and answers my question about our mutual friend," then no, I've never seen this happen, and yeah it sounds sort-of mad :D

I might not of explained it very well. Basically I would try and start a conversation with someone and they would walk away for a few minutes and then come back and continue the conversation. It does sound mad but has happened to me quite a lot.

Where did they go when they walked away, to the bathroom?!

I've had evil coworkers ignore me on purpose when I spoke to them to show their disdain of me, but they never did come back to answer me after they walked away. But strangers I've never met before haven't done that.
