Talking face to face can be very challenging, but for me chatting on the phone is downright awkward.

I'm not the best at reading body language but at least I can partially see and understand whats going on in face to face interaction.
On the phone all you have to go by is tone, inflection, and other auditory mediums.I'm not very good with that either, having trouble both controlling my own and understanding others use of it.And a long awkward silence on the phone seems twice as nerve wracking as one in person.

yes

If i want to order a takeaway i would rather walk for 10 minutes to the place, talk to the guy in the resteraunt, sit about for 10 minutes then walk for another 10 minutes to get back home than spend 30 seconds on the phone and have it delivered to my house.

I cannot stand talking on the phone. I'd much rather text or email someone than speak to them over the phone. I am very soft spoken, so in order for people to hear me, I feel like I have to shout. Also, I can select what I say, and make sure I don't make any grammatical mistakes.

I'm so awkward about talking on the phone that my friends (they dont know about my AS) suggest that I text or facebook them because that's not so frightening... we have an agreement that once I get to know the person well, I have to accept a phone call from them or I have to ring them instead of texting. They're really sensitive to my needs.

Yes, absolutly! It feels so unnatural to speak to someone without seeing them.

For the most part I hate the phone. I hate answering it, I hate making calls, I hate talking on it. However I've developed a tolerance.

I also hate talking on the phone. I don't know how people are going to react to my drone. I don't know if people are going to understand me or not.

I don't know why I hate it, but I really do. Sometimes when I'm waiting for a person to answer the phone, I worry that my voice will go while I'm waiting and I won't have any voice to respond with after they say "hello." I only like it when it's my boyfriend, and even then I find excuses to end the call early.

Yes. Hate it.

The other day I had to phone two banks to alert them that I would be travelling abroad and that my credit card might be used for substantial purchases while there (so that they don't refuse it because it looks like an unusual transaction).

I psyched myself up - it took 2 days of hard work to get myself to the point of making the calls. I had my script in my head. And I thought "no problem, I can do this ... punch a few numbers to get through the automatic part which gets you to the right department, then tell them what you want (rehearsed), then when they confirm they have put the holiday flag on the card, say thank you"

Well flipping heck. They both wanted to make small talk: about holidays in general, about where I was going and why I was going, about whether I had been there before etc etc.

I hadn't planned for that. I HAD NO SCRIPT FOR THIS. Frick. What a mess those calls turned out to be. Why can't they just stick to their script and get through the business as quickly as possible.

And, why, oh, why, in this day and age did I have to call the banks at all - we can do almost everything we want online except notify the credit card company that we are going on holiday .... random and ANNOYING.

I'm fine with talking on the phone. I can tell when it's my turn to talk.

I prefer to talk on the phone than to talk in person. But, that being said, I still hate doing both.

Don't like talking onto the phone at all, even with family. They are always like 'SPEAK UP' or 'WHAT?', and I'm saying it something over and over again two or three times in a row to make sure they say something. Maybe it's because of monotonous voice....

It just feels awkward altogether.

I hate phones....though chatting in person is hard it is harder to talk on the phone because of the pauses and such.

Yes, because you can't see the person but you can hear their voice; it just annoys me. It's fine if I'm calling a parent, but if I'm calling anyone else I'm not all that comfortable with doing so.
