It seems even people who are shy can at least still make friends and converse online. Which is something I can't do, or don't know how to. How do people socialize online? How do I start a conversation? How do I make it last? How can I keep the person interested, and maybe want to talk to me again?

I really need a detailed step by step guide on how to do this, or else I'm not going to get it.

I wish I wasn't such a boring person, which this proves. :(

im probably not the best to advise but i'll try....

look out for people who interest you and who you have things in common with. then send them a pm either mentioning something you noticed you had in common or telling them that they caught your eye and why. i'm sure most people would be a little flattered and want to know more about you. Don'tt be disheartened if they don't or if the conversation dies- it's just like real life in the way that some people click and some just don't.
orr, just post more on the boards and you will eventually come across people you have stuff in common or get along with. or perhaps someone will want to talk to you because of something you say

(for wp btw)

i don't have many online friends but i cant really think what else there would be to it

You've already done half of it.

No offense, but that doesn't really help. Most people don't have anything in common with me. And plus, what would I say in the pm? How would I act casual without trying to hard? How do I make a joke? What would the point be in just mentioning I liked something they said? How would I keep the conversation going without making it awkward? How would I come off as interesting, when I'm such a boring person?

This is what I meant by detailed.

Yup, I used to be addicted to Fictionpress. I missed those days I pm-ed various authors complimenting them on their stories. I usually asked them to elaborate on their stories. But once, I got too carried away. I pm-ed some rant about politics to my favorite author. She was so freaked out that she grumbled about me on her Twitter. Our conversations died since then, so please don't repeat my mistake.

Lol bad luck icyfire. Do you think you'd be able to post the twitter message? Sounds kind of funny.

Sorry, I can't. :) (The incident happened so long ago. Besides, it's my fault for pm-ing her that rant.)
